Ok it 90 mustang and when you first start the car the voltage stays in the middle with or without the lights on after it warms it drops 1 or 2 notches below half and stays there throughout the rpm band. tested the alt. changed the batt. checked alt. headlight harness. also i took one of the cables off and it will die out after about 10 seconds.. could the alt. be working but be on its way out and help is apprec. if you unhook the battery when the car is running its gonna die no matter what. get a voltmeter with the car on test the 2 battery terminals it should read in the 13-15 volt range and ur probably good

Sounds like it could be the alternator. Get a full charging system test done
