Hey,
I've recently fix my car and was running good last week.
today I started it and it ran okay for like 3 minutes then started to choke out like it was going out of gas then died. after a few restarts
and stumbling idles i notice after just leaving the key in the on position(not cranking) in a course of 1 minute the fuel pump primed on and off like 10 times by it self. so I though maybe since my ignition lock is a little jacked up its causing it to go fubar. I replaced it along with the ignition switch cuz they both looked real suspect but I'm still having no luck getting it
fired up . its really strange cuz it ran great last week and just today I've expireanced this
ocassional start b.s.
What should I check now?
I'm thinking its gotta be a loose connection somwhere or somthings grounding out. [Confused]
damn mustang...its always somthing [Razz]

alright, so i have fuel and spark.
I'm going to test the tfi and replace the starter relay tomorrow. btw Where is the starter relay located? on the solenoid? first time I've replaced one of those [Confused]
if that doesnt solve anything I'll replace the inertia switch.
It started up for 20 seconds(running good) then started running like somebody was turning the key quickly on & off .when it acts up while running ,the stock tach reads 900rpms then will intermentantly drop to 0 rpms then jump back up, continuing in that fasion then dies.would start back up after a second attemp.
oh and everything else as far as volts, fuel, temp, oil, speedo gauge display is working normal.
I've replaced the ignition switch and lock already.
I hope I dont have to replace the ecu harness
[Frown]
any ideas? if you need more info please lmk
I dont have any codes popping up.
I held down the gas pedal to verify if its flooded.
checked grounds and acessible connection of harnesses.
I even added gas, checked arc of spark, and tps values.
arrggh wheres the starter relay? [Roll Eyes]

i just had that problem a few days ago..my car would shut on and off..i left the key in the on position and started messing with the battery cables just tapping it and it turned out that everytime id move the positive cable a certain way the fuel pump would turn on and i could hear everything else turning on and offthink you should check your connections if not replace them..

ok,
I got it running for 5 minutes-till it cut it self off. I ran the codes and got #14,& #18
"ignition profile pick eratic" and "spout circuit
open." My spout connecter was in.
so I went ahead and swaped out the tfi just to verify thats is not the problem.
I just diconnected the battery. I'll see if I can get it started again and run the codes again.
maybe its in a limp mode or fail safe mode?

This site is always helpful in troubleshooting the eec.

I had this same problem with a faulty fuel pump but it would mostly act up when it was hot out and low on gasoline.

Those codes come from the car stalling.

update:
car starts and runs good after swaping out the distrubutor. ran codes only with #11 system pass.
Don't Buy Kragens dizzy's. This one took a shit with less than 500 miles! so if you ever get code 14 think of the distrubutor.
is the stator the metal disc the rotor sits on?
just curious if I can fix the failed one.
Thanks for your help. talk to you soon im sure.I own 3 fox bodies [Roll Eyes] [burnout]

Always use genuine ford parts when it comes to sensors/actuators etc.

I wouldnt waste my time with fixing dist with the high availability of the SEFI 5.0L dist.
