Some guys swear by electric fans, but this is one of the reasons I stopped using them. I ran the Mark 8 fan with a 130G alternator, and it consumed 90 amps continuously while it was on. It is very hard to wire for that much current, and I wasn't able to fuse it because the starting amps were much higher. 130 amps was the most I could get out of an alternator, and it wasn't enough to keep everything running.
As a results my fan kept failing, and my car severely overheated several times. That's when I asked myself what I was trying to accomplish, and went back to mechanical. The safety of my engine was the most important thing for me.

wow your fan or your wiring was really fucked up if a mark8 fan drew 90amps continuous, mine draws 50 at start up, 30 continuous on the high setting.

that will be plenty, I use a 130 in my 89 with a mark8 fan and my fan doesn't even slow down at idle.
