I just took my car to a local shop that is pretty well respected for performance oriented welding. I had them install my Maximum Motorsports full length subframe connectors, and they said they did tons of subframe connectors, no big deal. Anyway, I got the car back and as soon as I got home I got under it and looked at the work. The welds look really good, good penetration, no porosity, but they welded right through the powder coating on the connectors and the paint on the undercarriage. What should I do? Should I run it? Should I grind all of the welds off, by new connectors and find somebody else to do it? This sucks! I had a perfect notch and now I have a hack job.

Well you can't weld on powerd coat or paint for that matter. And last time I checked a weld with good penetration takes a little heat? Just sand off the areas of powder coat or paint that is burnt ans spray a little touch up paint on the areas. Sounds like a normal sub frame install to me? [patriot]

No, I mean that they didn't grind off any paint or powder coat before they welded the pieces together. I don't know if it is a problem or not. Like I said, the welds look pretty good, but the MM instructions say to grind off the paint and powdercoat prior to welding. Everything I have read says that if you weld on a painted surface, the paint will contaminate the weld. I guess I was wondering if this could pose a problem to the subframe connectors holding up, or if it just makes it harder to weld?

Sounds like they did it right.

Yellow94GT never touched anyone's sig or banned anyone, so I'm going to quit spreading that rumor. It's not like I have any proof anyways. All yellow94gt and other mods have done is volunteer their time to help other people buy/sell parts, learn how to make their cars go faster and meet fellow enthusiasts. I'm a hater, but it's hard to hate on these facts. I have saved hunrdeds, maybe thousands of dollars here buying and selling parts over the years alone, but I don't care, this website owes me damnit, and I'll piss on it as much as I want. Us haters gonna hate. Why contribute to something when you can take for free?

Oh yeah, this isn't my website, so no one has to ask for my permission to change my sig. Hell, not like I pay the CAFORDS bill, so why should they need my permission to put what they want on their site? We're all guests here. Maybe some of us should start acting like guests or leave?

you grind off a small part for the weled, they did that for sure, because the arc wont start on powder

its the residual heat that burnt up the rest of it, take a wire wheel to the burnt areas, good primer, good paint, by good i mean expensive srpay can stuff, not $.99, or even better yet brush on some POR15
