Just pulled my balancer of of my 93 gt and it was a 28.8oz not a 50oz like i thought. I have a 50oz. flywheel on and was wondering it i can use the 50oz ballancer that i bought? At least now I know what was wrong with the car. [ October 18, 2007, 10:51 PM: Message edited by: illwill510 ]

If the motor was designed to run a 28 or 50 oz flywheel or flexplate/balancer combo that is EXACTLY what you need to run. So you have a 280z balanced engine is what I'm understanding? [ October 18, 2007, 11:51 PM: Message edited by: HaulinAss Motorsports ]

The balancer is a 28 of of an 1984. I mistakenly got a 50oz flywheel on it and a vibration occured along with an oil leak from the rear of the motor and from the heads. Thought the balancer was bad, removerd it and found out it was a 28 not a 50. I thought i had a late model block but after taking out the starter and looking at the numbers my buddie said it is not. The numbers above the starter read 25-race-BB-OH3 what year block is this? Time for a rebuild, are the older 5.0 blocks stronger than the late models? thanks

All 302/5.0L Engines from 79-95 are balanced to 50oz. If you have a 28oz engine then it is 78 or older. You said the balancer was off an 84? Those as well are a 50oz design. Now, the block casting numbers that you posted aren't correct. The castin number will start out with a D for a 70's casting block or E for 80's casting blocks. The "D" stands for 7 which represents a Ford 70-79 production part number and "E" stands for a 8 which is a Ford 80-89 production part number(BUT most the E blocks also carried over to the 90-93 maybe even 95 as they were mass produced.....
So, you would need to find the correct casting numbers to figure out what shortblock you have in order to figure out what balance flywheel or flexplate and balancer combo to use.
