i also had mac flowpaths and ended up swapping them out for some 3chamber flows. the sound is perfect and not too loud but you'll probably lose a lil performance as theyre not the greatest flowing muffler out there.

Join the club [Razz]

Had the same on the Cobra as well and then welded in some hi-flow cats and it toned it down a bit but it's the drone that kills me at 2000 [Mad]

If you want quieter i'd try magnaflow.....is this on the 93 or another Cobra?

If 03/04 Cobra i've heard the Steeda/Borla Cb is fairly quiet or the Ford racing one with the X build in towards the back of the car.

If anyone wants a louder set-up for their 03/04 please pm me as i'm probably going to switch soon [Smile]

The X-pipe is what is making your car loud. I am running the flow paths and they sound fine with a catt'd h-pipe. Of course you will loose some power if you put the cats back on.

Check out this site

http://www.mustangexhaust.com/

They have sound bytes of different exhaust setups

+1...No matter what mufflers u run, with the off road x, your car is gonna be loud. With high flow cats you will only lose a few horses, but u can always gain it back with another mod.

I threw on some Bassani bullet style cats and it toned it down a bit but it's still on the loud side just not as obnoxious and a lot less burble and popping [Smile]

MAC is about as loud as Flows and Mags tend to sound a lot different because of the straight through NOT chambered style muffler.

I love the sound of the Macs combined with my offroad H, but I am now starting to get worried about driving around with such a loud car and not having cats on. I am also afraid that the drone might get worse if I put high flow cats on. Is this the case?

The drone was horrible when I put the stock H-pipe back on for smog.

Anyone using the Pypes high flow cats? They are only $60 and pretty compact.

Can't say that the drone got worse when i put the cats on .......to me it droned less but maybe it was just the shear volume [Roll Eyes]

Just found out my buddy Mike has my exhaust on youtube

Don't laugh at the launch i was still figuring the car out [Razz]

the cats will lower you HP. I have some magna flows you can buy for $30. in great shape! I currently have full Bassani exhaust. with o/r h-pipe. Seems okay for me. could be louder but it's good.

[BS flag]

I see it like this VERY often. People who are slow need/like their cars to be ungodly loud to sound like it's fast. People who are really fast, want to be quiet, because they don't need the advertisement so to speak.

Maeco, go with a nice set of high flow cats. Sounds GREAT and don't cost you in the power department!

The quietest high-flow mufflers are Dynomax Superturbos. They won't cost a lick of HP, but the car will sound near stock. (no joke, they are super quiet)
A buddies 380RWHP N/A 347 had these mufflers in a 2.5" full exhaust setup with longtubes & no cats. The car was very quiet. It was the closest to stock sounding I'd ever heard on a modified mustang.

Next up would be Dynomax Ultraflows. They are near identical to Magnaflows, but have a lot more packing material making them quieter. These mufflers out-flow just about eveything out there. I run them on both our Mustangs.....Both 3" off-road setups. The N/A car has dumps & has a very deep idle, no drone & is super quiet at part-throttle going down the road. At WOT it's loud, & sounds like no other 5.0 out there. Some like it, some don't. The turbo car is even quieter....

Next up on the quiet muffler list are the Magnaflows. Same as an Ultraflow, but less packing material.

All of these mufflers sound 'different' than the typical Flowmaster 5.0 we're all use to. All of these mufflers flow WAY more than a 2-chambered Flow.

IMO Mac has one of the nastiest (in a good way) sounding idles when you have a big cam in a 5.0. But, too loud & I absolutely hate the drone.

Some of the LS1 boys install a set of Dynomax race-bullets where the cats would go & it seems to do quite a bit without causing a flow restriction.

I have a BBK X-pipe with cats and a flowmaster catback set up on my 5.0. It's actually kind of quiet. Really minimal drone at 2k rpms.

I actually kind of want a louder set up, with the same sound but the idle of dumps. Should I try a mac catback? I took off my tailpipes but it catches every cop's attention now.

If You have a fast car it will be loud at WOT regardless of the exhaust system. What people are after is a semi quiet part throttle tone so evry cop within a mile is'nt looking or following You around and pulling You over to inspect Your car for cat's and other violation's. Plus it get's annoying when You have to yell at the passenger's in Your car just for them to hear You. I had removed My cat's and when I added HCI it was so loud that EVERY cop that I drove by would either turn around and stare at Me, pull out and follow Me, or pull Me over, needless to say I swapped a high flow cat on and hav'nt looked back. I hav'nt been pulled over since & this was about 7-8 year's ago.
