My cobra threw its supercharger belt this morning on the way in to work. The crappy Vortech tensioner came loose as usual and the blower belt got all tangled up in the fan. Now it's missing a rib and all chewed up. I got it put back on and limped in to work. Damn I wish they would make a spring tensioner for Vortech. Anybody ever heard of one?

It sounds like you just didn;t tighten the three hold down bolts tight enough if it came loose. You could also buy or make a tensioner that mounts on the top hole of the blower where the stock tensioner mounts that uses a bolt to push the stock tensioner tighter and can be locked down with a nut. Check out eBay for 'vortech tensioners' [patriot]

Yeah that would have been awkward. But that's just part of living with a Vortech.

It is the pulley itself that comes loose from the tensioner plate, because it's only held on but one nut that gets loose over time. Locktite doesn't seem to do the trick.

Looks like on eBay there is a cool bolt-type tensioner, I might try that. Anybody running this? Doesn't look like it will help with my pulley coming loose but its better than tensioning with a wrench...

I made something like that when I had my S-trim. Works great at keeping the tensinor bracket from moving after tightening.

Don't use the nut supplied with the pulley. Use a self-locking style (not nylon!) and it won't happen again. Mine has been working fine with alot of street time and over 300 passes to date. [Smile]
