Can someone give me a ballpark figure on the cost (parts and labor) to have an all forged 331 or 347 built by a local engine builder?
Keeping in mind that this would need to be smog legal how much power could I expect out of a supercharger w/intercooler setup on the stroker?

If you're talking a serious stroker+blower engine then you shouldn't use the stock block. If you get a Dart or R-302 block plus all forged and balanced internals and assembled you're looking at around $6000-7000 or more IMO. [ April 28, 2006, 04:38 PM: Message edited by: streakmatt ]

I am talking about a serious supercharger/stroker. I was guessing around $10-$12K with the intercooler and supercharger.

You're a lot closer than the others are. A good SC and intercooler alone are going to run you around 5k, ALONE.

when i said $6-7000 i'm talking about the Bottom end ONLY. Then when you calculate H/C/I, fuel system etc. plus installation you're close to 20K.

Once You build an engine that produces over 500 Hp there will be a whole lot of other work in suspension, fuel system, Rim's and drag radial's, tranny, rear end, brakes, guages, cooling system, control arm's and subframes at minimum. Well You get the picturte, You will have to decide what You feel You will need. Could be anywhere from 8,000 to 30,0000 depending on the individual. I made the mistake of buying a aftermarket stockblock longblock with upgraded internal's from a big company and it failed after 10,000. I just bought a shortblock with aftermarket piston's and an F cam from a member here for 500 buck's and it is doing just as good as the high dollar engine builder's did. Bottom line don't waste Your money on a stockblock with expensive internal's. If You have the money just go big.

I definitely want to do it right which is why I want to know how much people have spent to build high quality set ups. The main reason I started this thread is that I'm still up in the air as to whether I want to buy an 03/04 cobra and mod it or rebuild my coupe; engine, brakes, chassis, tranny, etc etc etc. Ahhh decisions decisions.

lot's of
-------------------- Yellow94GT never touched anyone's sig or banned anyone, so I'm going to quit spreading that rumor. It's not like I have any proof anyways. All yellow94gt and other mods have done is volunteer their time to help other people buy/sell parts, learn how to make their cars go faster and meet fellow enthusiasts. I'm a hater, but it's hard to hate on these facts. I have saved hunrdeds, maybe thousands of dollars here buying and selling parts over the years alone, but I don't care, this website owes me damnit, and I'll piss on it as much as I want. Us haters gonna hate. Why contribute to something when you can take for free? Hell, not like I pay the CAFORDS bill, so why should they need my permission to put what they want on their site? We're all guests here. Maybe some of us should start acting like guests or leave? If you think it is going to cost less than $12K when it is all said and done, promptly go to Safeway, buy some lemonade, and just enjoy the view from the porch.
