I want to pull out my 2.73's or 3.08's and put some new gears in, right now when i am going 70 mph in 5th gear i am taching 2,000 rpms. I was wondering which gears you guys would suggest, because i am sure some of you have either of the two in your cars. I put 411's in My Chevelle that i built and i love the low gearing torque, but it has and auto so i don't know anything about doing the rear-end with a stick shift. My tranny is a stock T-5. The car is an 88 Stang

I would go with 355's. You won't tach out too high on the freeway with these.

go with atleast 373s.. i'd say go with 4.10s though. i've got them and i love them. they are not that bad on the freeway unless you are one of those guys that likes cruising at 85mph all the timing.

If i am going 70 on the freeway i don't really want to be tachin' over 3,000 or 3,200. But at the same time i want a good set of gears for the race track when i finally go out there.

2700 on the freeway doing 70 mph sounds preety good to me, exspecially with the advantages you get with in town fun cuz of the lower gear.

i don't think 70 with 4.10s is anywhere passed 3k rpm. i'm not sure, i've never paid attention.. but then again i drive like an old man.. i tend to cruise at 2.5 rpm on the freeway all the time.

I switched from 3.73's to 3.55's last month and I like the 3.55's better all around.
I can't say that I miss the 3.73's at all

What kind of difference did you feel when going from 373's to the 355's? What were you taching on the freeway before compared to now. I appreciate the helpful info.

Definately not 4.10's, with your setup you might as well go with the 3.55's since you should have a good amount of power. With the 4.10's you might not even make the 1/4 without over-revving or hitting 5th.

It dropped about 2-300 rpm at freeway speeds.
75mph was 2500rpm
now its about 2200rpm
2nd gear I would get wheelspin constantly with the 3.73's, now if I'm in a straight line and the ground isn't dirty it just hooks and goes, I like that a lot more

wheelspin on the shift or what?
with 3.73's I could be rolling at 3k rpm in 2nd, punch it and get pitched so far sideways it would almost spin out.
now it just chirps and goes when I do the same thing

3:73's here and 2500 @ 70 mph. love'em. just if your going to get 3:73's or 4:10's, you better have some good traction for that first gear.

I have a stock 95 except for exhaust mods. I have also been debating on 373's or 410's. I am leaning towards 373's. My question is where is a good place to get this done especially one that takes care of the speedo problem as well. Sacto area of course.

One thing you got to look at is how much power your car is making. If you plan on staying with a stock motor then 3.55's might be easier to live with on a day to day basis. But if you plan on making mods to the motor i would go with the 3.73's. I got them in mine and at first i didnt like the high rpms on the freeway. BUt this was on a stock motor. Once i made mods to my motor and had more power i could cruise at lower rpms and still be at a high speed because i had more power. SO you may want to look into other mods first if you dont have any already.
