Technically a MAJOR tuneup also requires Check and adjust ignition timing Check and adjust curb idle speed Visual check of emission control related devices Clean fuel injectors Clean ISC motor as required. Clean throttle body air intake Visually inspect fuel lines and fuel rail. Pressure test fuel pump. Visually inspect fuel pump pressure regulator vacuum line and connections. Adjust valves De-carbonize intake manifold. De-carbonize intake and exhaust valves. De-carbonize combustion chamber and pistons.

WTF? Adjust valves? Maybe on a Honda. What engine does your Ranger have? If its a 2.3L you might want to look into when the last time the timing belt was changed. All you need to do for a major tune up is:
-Replace spark plugs and wires -Replace air and fuel filters -Change engine oil and filter -Drain and refill the transmission -Drain and flush the cooling system -Replace PCV valve -Do a vehicle inspection -Depending on mileage you probably should change the rear differential fluid also. -If it's a 3.0L then you could also replace the distributor cap and rotor.

Well yeah not on a ranger, but in general thats your major tuneup

DO NOTHING LOL
I have a 94 XLT 3.0 5-speed and I drive that thing everywhere. It's bone stock and staying that way. My mental state demands it lol...
Got my hands full with the 5.0

Theres alot of aftermarket chips and junk for Rangers too, theyre not worth the money. I got an 04' Ranger Edge with 31's. I put a Flowmaster on it with a turndown and noticed a 400 rpm drop when I cruise at 80 mph.

I agree completely. It's the same with my '97 Ranger. It's my daily driver and I like it that way
The only mod I would consider is a K&N filter. If you still have the urge to mod it then I would just go for the V8 swap

I know a guy with a 5.0 in a 4x4 ranger. Kindof cool, but its always nice to have a practical daily driver.
