its a 88 gt, just put in a new longblock, car backfires through intake, hesitates, haw little to no power at all. found some small amounts of oil/fuel in just #7 and 8 port on lower manifold. getting a 02 sensor code and thats it. has a hissing noise only directly above the upper manifold and then it is loud when engine shuts off. but i have checked all the vacume lines and seal and gaskets 4 times over. i'm thinking that when i bought new gt40y aluminum heads and kept the stock intake, there could be some clearance problems with the thickness of the gasket between the block and lower manifold. also done a full compression test and got a new fuel pump, injectors and basically all new sensors. if anyone could help, please do. If your car backfires through the intake it's normally a sign of incorrect timming....A bad EGR will also cause an intake backfire...

An exhaust backfire will be caused by a vacuum leak, exhaust leak, or possible a bad air injection diverter valve...When you installed new heads did you change or block any smog ports?...

The obvious thing I thought of was a bad PCV valve when you mentioned oil in the intake, but that could be a result of the intake backfires..

I hope this info helps, good luck... [patriot]

thanks and on the new heads i have, the hole on the front of the heads where you screw in one of the bolts for the alternator bracket and on the other head where the power steering bracket attaches i pluged. i dont have AC no more so my power steering is up where my AC was. but the only smog stuff i changed was putting on a off road h pipe but thats not it because i did not have the problem with my old engine with the o/r h pipe. so im guessing it is the egr valve. it is old and i also started the car with it hooked up and then unpluged the egr valve then it did nothing to affect the idle or sound. so i have no idea. thanks for the help.
