anyone own a ford explorer or mounty? front breaks are SHOT on my 2000 mounnty, rotors are f'd up too. I'm going to be tackling it this weekend but wanted to know if there are any special tools that I might need? Also what is the BEST break pads to get? By best I mean stopping ability and longevity.
Thanks
whats rotors are better: value craft or duralast? I thought duralast was better but they are cheaper than the value crafts. [ May 13, 2005, 01:28 PM: Message edited by: Jdub07 ]

I haven't done my fronts yet, but I did the rears last weekend.
I got stock replacement rotors and the ceramic pads from kragen for $150 out the door.
my rear pads on the left were completely gone, no pad material left
Only tool I needed other than my standard socket set was a big ass hammer to get the rotor off, the parking brake back there is a drum inside of the disc rotor, holy shit that sucked! [ May 13, 2005, 01:26 PM: Message edited by: blind ]

The fronts are easy peasy! If I only had to do the pads it would have taken about 15 min for both sides and that includes clean up. Its just one bolt and thats it. Since I had to do the rotors too it took a little longer but still only 3 bolts on each side. I did however just for shits and giggles use a big hammer like suggested to get as much break dust off before installing the new parts.
AutoZone $104 out the door for Duralast Rotors, Duralast Ceramic pads, four shop towels, bearing grease for another car and break pad lube.
