3550 - 10spline input, 28spline output, just like a t5
tko - 26spline input (like gm), 31spline output (just like the c6)
new tko's - not reallysure the big differences, supposed to hold 500 and 600 hp

so to use a tko, what other parts would be needed to order?

I think the TKO 500 and 600 are just updated versions of the 3550 and TKO. I have installed a TKO 600 and it was almost identical to an old TKO with the exception of the tailshaft housing. Everything mounted up the same way however.
To install a TKO in a Foxbody, you will need a bellhousing, a 26 spline clutch disc, a 31 spline output yoke, and you will need to cut the welds on your crossmember and slide it back.

I read somewhere that you can actually use an AOD crossmember without any problems when installing a TKO, is that incorrect?

Nope, you're correct. AOD crossmembers will work w/o mods.

Nope. They are the same with the exception the placement on the supports. The T5's are centered (basically) the AOD's are all the way to the rear.

I had to use about 1/2" worth of washer-spacer to get the shifter up where I wanted it with an AOD xmember and a 3550. YMMV.
