My a/c just up and stopped working on me. Its a 95gt and the thing was workin and all of a sudden stopped today.

I tried recharging it, but the low side(fat tube, pass side, close to the compressor) reads 150psi. The refill fit only fits one pipe and thats the one i tried...that should be the one right? ANyways i then hooked up a can of 134 to it and it wouldnt fill, too much pressure...wtf could be wrong? am i in the wrong line or something? HELP!!!

I had the same problem on my dodge. Basically the clutch on your ac compressor isn't turning on. This could be because of several reasons. Check all the fuses for the ac. Check power and ground to the ac clutch. My car turned out having a bad ground to the ac compressor clutch. I ran a new ground and problem solved.

Come to think of it....i did swap out my spark plugs about the same time...with a bad a/c clutch would attribute to the buildup of press. in the low press. side? Ill definetly check all those connections in the morning

Thanks [patriot]

Well if the freon isn't circulating you will see those kinds of readings. My reading was way over 100 psi as well when I checked. You can watch under the hood as someone turns the ac on in the car. If the clutch doesn't engauge on the ac compressor than thats the issue. Than it's just a matter of tracking down the reason why. i.e. bad clutch, blown fuse, bad wiring along those lines. Also there are pressure sensors that could be bad as well but my money is on the ac clutch not coming on for some reason since the pressure is so high.

When mine wouldnt come on, it turned out to be the little switch on the cansiter near the firewall.

this is what happened to my 95GT and then all of a sudden one day the A/C compressor started smoking like a mo fo and making a loud shreaking noise. I got an A/C compressor off here and took off my old one which the clutch was so frozen i couldn't even move it with a pair of pliers, going to get mine professionally filled.

Wrong side man. The fitting to recharge is on the driver side, say directly to the right of the intake manifold, just unscrew the cap.

OOPS ya youre right it was on the drivers side... But i still tried the right one....My prob sounds like the clutch malfunctioning, exact same symptoms...

ALso the car has plenty freon, i tried maybe airing out the a/c lines to release pressure for recharging but tons of freon came out and still 150psi reading on low side. I remember i disconnected something near the #1 plug...im wondering if its the harness for the clutch switch? Im gonna hunt it out, keep yall updated!

My 86 did this. A/C Pressure switch failed. It's used to shut down the system if a high or low systme pressure is detected (to protect the compressor from damage). You can pull the connector and jump it with a wire. My '86 had it on the reciever/dryer, but I haven't looked for it on my '95. I bet it's in the same place. Most shop manuals tell you how to jump it.
