I just changed out the serpentine belt on my 1994 GT. I tighten up the tensioner pulley til it could turn no more. The belt seems to be on tight but when I tug it between the alternator and idler pulley, the tensioner pulley tilts about half inch. Is the belt suppose to be be tight to where it doesn't budge no matter what, or is this fine? [ June 25, 2004, 01:38 PM: Message edited by: Yung Than ]

How much can you pull on the belt?...Would you say that you can lift it over an inch?...Does the belt squeel when you turn on the AC or turn the wheel from a stop?...
I don't have my car otherwise I'd check, but on the belt tensioner there should be a tab to indicate the wear area...Look for some marks on the tensioner itself and check for a pointer or tab or something....Then just make sure you're in the allowed area....
Let us know...

I ditched the AC long ago, I'm using the FMS ac delete pulley. The belt lifts slightly if I tug it, but is it suppose to be tight enough the belt doesn't lift at all? I will also look for the pointer to see where it is.
