i have an 87 with speed density and was wondering if i have to swith to mass-air for a cam. if some one has put a cam in there car with speed density could you please let me know what the outcome was. planning on getting e303

Yes you do need to upgrade to mass air on that cam. You may need the idle plate too.

look for a crower 15511 cam if you want to stick with speed density, its what a lot of people run with lots of success.

you could get all the stuff for mass air pretty cheaply at a pick-n-pull, I would imagine.

i can get u a whole mass air conversion kit for $300 summit sells them for almost $500 i have the computer mass air with sensor and harness every thing u need (for stick or auto cause the computers are differnt )

I had a TFS stage 1 cam in my car for a while while I was still running speed density. Expect the car to idle sporadically, ranging from 900 - 1500. It didn't surge. It sit there, but never at the same RPM. It would randomly just jump from 900 to 1200. Also, the car will run pig rich. Whenever you stab the pedal, you'll see a ton of smoke out the rear view mirror. My car got 8-10mpg while running speed density (its now around 15-17mpg) And to top it off, you'll spew unburned gas at idle. If I were youI'd plan on making the change from SD to mass air at the same time you do the cam. The car wasn't down on power by much (trapped at 106mph), but its drivability was in the shitter.

thanks every one! i am going to get that crower cam in like 1 month and 1 week from now and i will let you guys know how it turns out.
