I need a pair of '88 E7 heads w/150k miles on them done. I have been getting offers of $200+ for just a valve job & re-assembly, which I am not even considering since these heads will be swapped for better ones in the near future once I pass smog. I would rather use the $200+ on AFR heads.
The '88 block was re-honed, re-ringed, and new mains & rods & windage tray installed by myself.
I have some questions:
If I strap these heads (150k) on a refreshed 302 block will it pass smog with Stock H-pipe & smog equipment?
What do re-freshed engines act like if they have high-mileage heads on them? Would this totally defect the purpose of re-freshing my 302?
If the heads have a lot of miles the valves won't close properly, possibly sticking and giving poor performance correct?
Thanks in advance for any info. [ December 13, 2003, 06:35 PM: Message edited by: 88DroptopGT ]

Why are you thinking of getting a valve job?...If you dont need it dont do it....If its for performance reasons just wait until you get new AFR's...
If you have the stock heads and cam and all smog equipment your car would pass fine, especially if you re-ringed the pistons...
The weakest part of your heads will be those 150,000 mile valve springs...Put some new valve springs on the E7's and buy some new lifters that will be compatible with the E7's and the AFR combo you are gonna run...

Okay, my stock lifters still look good and move freely, I have new valve guides from my gasket kit, so a valve spring compressor is all I need to replace the springs & guides?
Thanks for the advice.
