Does the additon of a looser torque converter free up hp that is lost in a auto tranny as well as allow you to launch at a higher rpm???

Hard question to answer. If the converter is locked up, it doesn't matter. While its not locked up, it depends on the converter.

My car is in the shop getting a 3000 stall PI converter put in and I was hoping I'd be able to launch at a higher rpm.
They're articles say that the addition of their Stallion converter equates to approx. 50 horses to the rear wheels. I know that adding the converter doesn't actually add power. I guess I was hoping that what they meant was that it frees up hp lost in the AODE to the tune of possibley 50hp????

What they probably meant is that while taking off, you'll be in the part of your RPM band that's making 50HP more than the stock converter (1700 rpm vs 3000). I wouldn't expect to see anything big on the dyno from the converter if its a lock up type.

Picked the car up and I can definately feel the difference in torque... The one thing that is weird is that it doesn't shift as hard as it use too. The transgo shift kit is still there too. The guy at Walnut Creek Transmission says that's normal with a 3000 stall w/lock-up.
Is he right?

Hmmmm....does it stall up to 3,000 while your other foot is on the brake?
