Would a bad pressure regulator or fuel pump cause my wierd idle and the slight roughness around 2500 rpm?

I checked my fuel pressure today, 28psi Vacuum line on, around 38 with the line detached. Also, it seemed the needle went *down* when I gunned it then rose to normal.

Any suggestions?

Nick

When you gunned it and you saw the fluctuation was it with the vacuum line on or off?

Have you tested your vacuum pressure? You may have a leak. That could cause a poor idle and hesitation.

First put em in your bum bum. then mess with your FPR to see if it will raise and lower the FP. also if there is a slight drop check your fuel filter.

It has a new fuel filter, so if anything it would be the pump or the FPR. Mine is still stock, non-adjustable.

Also, once in a while when I turn over the engine, there's a *thump*, almost like it's backfiring, like if fuel is pooling onto the piston from a stuck injector...not a clank or anything to indicate something is physically broken.

Again, though, what is the stock Fuel pressure supposed to be in a stock 1997 Mustang GT?

I'm hoping that thumping sound is just a loose or broken motor mount. Any other suggestions?
