i am woundering what would be a better tranny for my app, looking at about 650 torque plus a 150 shot of NX, those figure are at crank ofcourse, not the wheels, i would be getting the viper spec t56 if i went that route
and first gear and final overdrive would be the same because i would use 3.55's with the tko and 4.56 with the t56 viper, that evens the gear ratio to where i want it

It doesn't make a damn bit of difference unless you're putting the power to the ground, meaning you drag it with slicks and actually hook.
Good luck hooking 800+ rwtq and a 4.10 1st gear ratio in anything other than a Viper spec T56.

if u saw i was only using 3.55's with the tko, i would use 4.10's in the t56 viper because that tranny has a first of 2.66, i dont need a lot of gear because i (will) have so much torque, either way

ok how's this translation:
do you run slicks and get under a 1.6x 60'? Y/N
If Y, worry about the difference in tranny In N, either one will be fine.
And if Y, at the 800+ ft/lb of torque level anything other than a viper spec T56 is going to cry uncle sooner than later (JMHO)

i am not worried about getting under a 1.6 60 ft, i am wondering what tranny will be able to handle the power better, i was thinking the t56 also but i have never heard of a tko blowing up easily
this car will have this amount of power because it is the crate motor i want and i just want to have nitrous on top of it, more than likely will never use the nitrous because i wont run slicks on the street and the car will not see too much track time JMHO? what does this mean, i'm not up on this short form yet [ March 11, 2003, 01:35 PM: Message edited by: 66 AC COBRA ]

TKO should be fine then (Just My Humble Opinion)
TKO's survive in 9/10 second cars, tremec 3550's abound in 10/11 second cars, and Treynor is tooling around in a ~800 rwhp Viper (T56) he's run slicks too

66 AC - I have run both in my 91. There is little difference between the two trannys. If your looking to drive distances or want a 4-5 shift against the chevy's on the freeway, the T56 is nice to have. If your going to be running around town or road courses where you don't need to get out of 4th...TKO. Oh yeah, I have the non-viper T56 in the horsepower range your looking for...and it whines. Definately viper T56...smoother shifts than the TKO.

I vote for the T56! Also note, if you have some mechanical skills you can swap out some of the gear ratios. For example on the T56 is 5th gear is .8 and 6th is .65. Swap out the .8 in 5th and put a .9, and put a .5 in 6th. That way ur 1-5 gears are for racing, good for racing. Yet that 5th gear with a .5 ratio is good for freeway.
Either way...I vote for the 6 speed. You wont regret it! I bet tons of AC Cobra's have 5 speeds in them, and some are using the TKO. But how many of them have 6 speeds? GO WITH THE 6TH SPEED!

Or you could call D&D and ask them to send the tranny with the gears all ready swapped. Don Walsh Jr. has been experimenting with different ratios in his fox body.
