This happened last year also where my spark plug seemed to unscrew itself. I ended up replacing one head (only $300 and didn't want a helicoil)and having them both ported and polished with a new valvetrain, new sparkplugs put in tight!....well AGAIN on the old head a plug popped out and destroyed the threads and busted my coil, I'm going to take the head down to my machine shop to have a helicoil threaded in because I dont have the money to get a new head and have it ported. When I bought the new coil ($100 from ford) I asked one of the techs and he said he has seen a few 4.6's + 5.4's come in with the same problem. I am using bosch +4's during both incidents, I dont know what is the cause. Any Ideas? This is an expensive reoccurring problem. Thanks

Ouch, sorry to hear about that, Carlo. I don't have anything useful to say about your heads, just came in when I saw you're having problems.
I'm glad that you're getting it taken care of, and hopefully I'll see you at Sac sometime.
Take it easy,

This same exact thing happened in my buddy's 98 cobra. He was accelerating moddertly out of a drive way at like half throttle. Maybe detonation was the cause, he never really got a answer from the techs at the dealer. [ February 28, 2003, 10:53 AM: Message edited by: 91sleeper ]

What plugs are you using, the reason why is that most aftermarket sparkplugs are only threaded halfway and the motorcraft plugs are threaded all the way try some motorcraft plugs. There is a good article in the 5.0 MUSTANG magazine April issue page 210. Hopefully this solves the problem. goodluck

I just read more of the article and they were saying ford had the wrong plugs in the the correct ones to get are the AGSF32C.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to use stock motorcraft plugs when I put the motor back together.

Happend on my 00 lightning, they replaced my motor =) also they said the new head design on the 03 for the 5.4 i dont know about the 4.6 but have 3 extra threads on the lightning motors. This is a common problem on lightnings stock and modified.
