Anybody ever use RTV as a quick/easy fix to a slightly leaky valve cover?
I drip about once every minute or so when running and it looks like the source is one or both valvecovers. I just did an oil change and when the passenger valve cover is loaded I can feel it running by the cork.
What if I just pop it off and put a thin layer of RTV on both sides of the cork valve cover gasket? I torqued to valve covers down to spec, and the cork gasket didn't slip or anything and all the bolts go through it, installed dry. ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

Never used it to fix a leaky valeve cover gasket but did use it for months for my leaky oil pan gasket it works great once it dries. Just make sure you wipe the area down so its as dry as it will get.

on the shelf, with the rest of my cobra parts (where they belong, lol) using motorsport valve covers. I'll try the RTV trick first...

I'm using the stock steel gaskets & 'Cobra' polished VC's. Just don't tighten them down too much. I've gone through 3 sets of VC's that way!

I've had good luck with my $13 Summit rubber/steel valve cover gaskets. You need to tighten the piss out of them for them to seal, but they work great. Pick up a set on your next Summit order

...I'm afraid of over-tightening these VC's. Had cork gaskets & cracked the corner off.....on 2 seperate VC's. The steel ones are dummy-proof. Can't over-tighten them. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)
