what Cylinder Heads will match up well with a Cobra Intake??? Should I just put on the always interesting AFR's or would there be a different head that would match up better with a ported Cobra Intake. Another stipulation is that I want to be smog legal. I plan on getting a custom grind cam and obviously the Cobra Intake hence the name PseudoCobra. Any input would be helpful...I was thinking AFR 165's but if someone could steer me in a better direction if there is one it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Ryan

I second you AFR's 165cc's, but I recomend you get your Cobra intake Extrude-Honed if it isnt ported that much already..... [ February 01, 2003, 12:07 AM: Message edited by: Black94 5.0 ]

the afr 165's would be a good choice if u majorly for thye cobra intake and not the heads at all, any other way and they would be a miss match, if u are wanting to stay with for for some reason use the gt40x heads, they actually outflow most street heads stock, but they dont outflow, and thing made for higher rpm, or the afr's and holley's, i would get the afr's because they are the best, but i would consider getting a holley or trick flow track heat intake to match them better

Another vote for AFR165's if you're using the stock shortblock. The 185's if you don't mind notching your pistons. The Cobra intake will be fine. It'll probably hold you back by a little bit up top compared to the Edlebrock intakes. Ed Curtis has done MANY AFR/Cobra intake combos that run hard. With the right cam you should have no problem hitting 110MPH+ in the quarter.

Yes am I storngly based on the cobra intake if you notice my name you'll see that the whole thing is trying to turn this car into a cobra. I just wanted to know what heads would match up with the cobra intake and stay smog legal. Looks like I'll just go with some AFR 165's cause it'll be my daily driver and i would like decemt mileage and my cam will be very mild since I am staying smog legal. I will definately go custom grind though so I can maximize my smog legal power. Someone said GT40X heads would match up better...Why? Thanks for the info though keep it coming. Ryan

i said gt40x's were smog legal, and they are very decent heads, and are made by ford, which i though was what ur are going for, go with the afr's for power, but if u want to stay all ford, the gt40x's are the one to go with

GT-40 irons are a great match for a cobra intake, in fact perfect. That's what 93-95 5.0 cobras had from the factory.
Easy mid 12 second potential, unported.

Sounds like a very stereotypical classic 5.O combo.... what cam and intake do you have?

Hey Shade Tree, If I port those GT40 Irons will I still be smog legal as long as I get a smog legal cam. That's the exact reply I was looking for "A PERFECT MATCH", thanks for the input. How much do those usually run for about??? Ryan

The GT40P's seem like a good match and are definately affordable, here's my problem. For them to fit you need to get new exhaust headers which ford makes the part for 87-93's but I have a 95, does someone make a high flow shorty for my car that would fit on these heads or if I get these am I looking at trying to get custom exhaust headers from somebody? Or would I plain and simply have to get a different cylinder head cause of my year? Thanks for all the input. Ryan

smog guy won't see ported heads plus, he doesn't see airflow either
I figure $400 for used heads, $500 for a rebuilt set (cleaned, valve job, etc.)

Sounds good to me, I was hoping for JBA but I don't think that's happening. Will I need tall valve covers for these or can I use stock height? SOunds like I should have one hell of a daily driver on my hands once I'm done thanks to your help guys. God I love this Board.
