Simple question. My valve springs are original and fms heavy duty spring sets are $109. Is it best to get them? thnx...

-scott

*note, just noticed that it said that spring set was meant for gt-40 heads. [Mad] Where do i get some stock replacements?

I think i have a bad lifter though, so thats another reason i want to get in there and put on the 1.7's. I stress the *think* part though, cause its just a really bad ticking coming from the heads area.

Technically, 1.7's will promote LESS valvefloat then 1.6's. Simple fulcrum.... A 100lb spring will put 160lbs on the lifter with 1.6's & 170lbs with 1.7's. It'll also push the spring down more which will increase the spring rate.

As for performance gain, there is some to be had with 1.7's & the stock GT cam.

Valvesprings would be a good idea simply because the stock springs suck ass! The GT40 springs will work just fine. Get the matching retainers & locks.

I'll tell you what, put on the 1.7 rockers and race me. If you win, then it must be because you have 1.7 rockers and I don't [Wink] j/k Check the FordMuscle.com archives. Fasterdamnit put some on his stock motor and gained "eh" if I remember right. I've also seen "eh" dyno results. Not to mention you won't be a true member of the stocker 5.O club if you run respectible times at the track with 1.7 rockers.

As for your tick sound.... tighten your header bolts [Wink]

I have 1.7's on my '94...I noticed that the powerband changed after the install(found power higher in the RPM's)..(seat of the pants feel was not that great, but probably helped horse power after I added Intake and headers)
I replaced the stock valve springs with a set of Crane Heavy Duty's(performance stock replacements)..You can get them through Summit, Kragen, & Vic Hubbards to name a few...
After I put the valve springs and 1.7's on, I noticed that the stock lifters couldnt handle the spring rates of the new springs at high RPM(valve rattle)...I went back in the motor and put a set of Crane-(anti-pump)-lifters & some Comp. Cam push-rods..There is no longer any valvetrain noise [Big Grin]
If you replace your valve springs on the head your gonna need a : air-compressor(to compress air in the cylinder and hold up the valves while you change the springs)..

How many miles are on your 5.0?

What are your future mods?

Basically, you might as well change the lifters, pushrods, and valve-springs if your gonna put new rockers on...(save yourself a head-ache) [patriot]

Honestly if all that hastle is necessary, i think ill avoid it. My car is just hitting 94K and i plan on throwing on a new engine by the end of summer. This was going to be the last performance mod (besides maybe a switch to long tubes or maybe some juice [Wink] ).

st5150- SHIT, your right. Funny story, I think the guy who did mu headers screwed up last time cause about a month ago i found one bolt missing [Eek!] , and i tightened that and another bolt next to it without a torq wrench. Just checked it and yes ones missing and another is loose [Eek!] . Anyone know what the torq wrench should be set at for header bolts?

I dont off the top of my head but you should get a chiltons manual. They have all the torque specs for every nut and bolt in your car.

I dont think u can torque down header bolts.
Tighten them down every month or you could try a copper gasget.
