can i still use vert motor mounts with a 351W in my 86? im going to try to cram the motor under the stock hood, so i wanna use those mounts. any other tips for making that fit would be appreciated.

i know that the vert mounts lower the motor almost an inch. so mabey that will work. i wanna keep my stock hood, cause thats getting rare now [ December 30, 2002, 08:02 PM: Message edited by: cobraman1994 ]

You may need to use a few washers under the hood hinges to get it to clear.

If you're looking for clearence w/stock hood hopefully you've taken off your hood-liner, right?Next you can try to cut some of the "ribs" under the hood, if it doesnt help with clearence it can help with weight savings. If you use convt. motor mounts will your headers fit?

Yes, the vert mounts work fine with a 351 (drops the engine over an inch)...as for clearance, it's really an issue of what you are going to run. FI setup? Carb'd? I know that an FI setup (Cobra upper, GT40 lower- no spacer) will just BARELY clear. Are you still running your stock 86 hood? If I remember right, the 85-86 hoods don't have any curve to them like the stock 87-93 ones do.
If you want, I can send you some pics of my setup...it should be together/running this weekend..

Just to be safe you might want to run a slight cowl hood to be 100% sure you clear. Plus I like the small cowl hoods any way .

the front end is being converted to a 87-93 front, so ill have that hood. and im going carbed send me some pics please anyways. stangman@surewest.net what set up are you running?
