Any of you had a problem with your idle? An example of "problem" is it starts up and acts like its missing for about 1 minute and then when it idles down it runs normal for about 1 minute and then it acts like its missing and if you check the vacuum its down hella low maybe 10 instead of 15? I am having this problem i've replaced almost EVERY Smog junk on the car and i even sprayed carb. cleaner around the intake manifold and that still didn't do anything. I have no idea what it is and i noticed its worse when its hot out, last night my vacuum dropped to 5Hg! and the engine temp. was 190 and it was hot out. Please tell me one of you have run into this problem and know the answer i am sure its not gonna last much longer it sounded like it was running on 2 pistons last night. dude, if your vacuum reading is that low either it's a leak or some really fubared timing!

If your vacume is that low you better find that leak.

Yeah, check for leaks. Maybe your PVC valve popped out? Since its way back there, it can be hard to notice.

I have had plenty of leaks that I failed to discover with the "carb cleaner" trick. You may hear a "whistle" though if you're lucky, and a stock cammed, stock 5.0 will idle at 20" if everything is kosher. 5" means you have a big problem.
Here's my latest leak from a couple weaks ago. You can see how the "carb cleaner" trick wouldn't do shit as the vacuum leak was to the 'lifter galley' area.

My car does the same thing when I start it up. It idles about 1200-1500 then will eventually kick down. Still if I don't let it completely warm up before I drive when I come to a stop it kicks down real hard and the R's go up. Don't know what it is and sorry I couldn't help, but at least you know your not the only one.

It'll hold vacuum and i have the E303 cam in it, It started doing it right after i had it smogged and i had just put new spark plugs and wires on it an adjustable fuel regulator it happened started a day after the smog. I think the timing is fine but i'll check that and the PVC valve is brand new and in place. This is a list new parts i've replaced to try to solve the problem: PCV EGR EGR Regulator EVP Sensor EVP Regulator O2 Sensors Vacuum Lines Idle Bypass Valve Some weird sensor on the firewall (forgot the name of it) I used carb cleaner to look for leaks it didn't change at all not even a little rev. I am gonna go run the codes in a second and see what i got last time i replaced what i got and it didn't change anything but i might have new ones now i don't know LaTe

when I had a comp-cam 274 HR on GT-40P heads, I would get about 12-14" of idle (224/232 @0.05)
My stock '94 cobra setup purs at about 19-20" of idle and I think my stock HO setup was the same.
I've had it as low as 5", and with the stock cam that bitch will run just fine at 500 rpms! lol!
my Anderson N-41 cam (222/230 @0.05, .512" lift) hung a steady 15" of vacuum on TFS heads and edelbrock rpm intake. [ August 09, 2002, 03:14 PM: Message edited by: shade-tree ]

I SAW A PROBLEM SIMILAR TO THIS AT MY WORK AND I TURNED OUT BEING THAT ON A 5.0L ENGINE THE TIMING GEAR WAS WORN OUT (OLD NYLON TYPE) AND IT JUMPED A TOOTH ON THE SPROKET AND WAS ABLE TO STILL RUN DESCIENT. I SAY CHECK YOUR COMPRESSION AND IF ITS FISHY DO A LEAK DOWN TEST ON IT. AND THAT WEIRD SENSOR ON YOUR FIREWALL IS CALLED A MAP SENSOR ON NON MASS AIR FLOW CARS AND A BARO SENSOR ON MASS AIR FLOW CARS.

I replaced my timing gear and timing chain when i did the cam. What tools do i need to do a compression test? i haven't done once since senior year of high school! lol

you need a compression tester which kragen sells, take out all your spark plugs and crank the engine with the tester in one spark plug hole and crank it until you here compression 4 times and then stop check our compression which should be close to the rest of the cylinders, if its low on all the cylinders then you have a problem with the cam timing....note make sure you crank your engine by jumping the starter solenoid so you don't fill the cylinders with gas and try to light it with one of thoes spark plugs thats removed..lol its happened.

i don't think its something that major. It only runs funny after a minute of running. When it starts up cold it runs rough. and i think its running rich cause i smelled gas today. I've already replaced the o2 sensors so i don't think thats the problem. Its driving me insane i can tell i've lost a lot of HP. It seems to be getting worse or its my imagination but when i give it gas it doesn't speed up as quickly as it used too. It chages everyday how it wants to run which pisses me off more.
