I need to change my oil pan gasket on my 50. Now Iknow I will need to losen the motor mounts, disconnect the headers to the pipe, disconnect the drive shaft, and disconnect the tranny mount.
Is there any other trick I should know about or be looking for while doing this gasket change?
Thanks

yeah, it's easier to lift the motor on a cherry picker than to try and wedge blocks under the motor mounts/k-member area. think about it, how are you going to get the pan off if it's not lifted? ans: you don't
how do you get the pan off if you lifted it from the front or back? you don't
best possible from underneath that I have seen is to use a block of wood in the front of the tranny, wedge some short 2x4 in where the motor mounts are, and then jack the bellhousing all the way up till it touches the tunnel by lifting the tranny (maximum lift from under the car.
because the motor sags a bit you could lift it a little higher with a picker, and probably wouldn't even have to disconnect the steering shaft.
IMHO, this is a WHORE of a job on jackstands with no engine hoist.

Save yourself the time and hassle of being under the car...pull the engine, it's alot easier.

The best tip I can give you is to use a victor reinz or equivalent one piece pan gasket. I also like to pull the dampner.
