Topic: Which Clutch/Flywheel/Quadrant to Buy?

Hi guys. My '98 Cobra is sitting over at Elk Grove Ford right now-I took it in yesterday to check on a strange "Clunking" that was coming from my clutch pedal. You could feel it when you engaged the pedal and could hear a "clunk" both inside and outside the car when the clutch was depressed. Anyways, the dealership is tearing down my tranny to get to the root of the problem. I suspect the pressure plates or a bearing.
So, I figured since my Cobra has 53k on it right now, I might as well throw a new clutch/flywheel/quadrant in it, since the tranny is already apart and I will have to probably replace the clutch at around 75k.
I was told that going with Steeda's King Cobra Kit, Billet Flywheel, and a Double Hook qaudrant would be cool. Does this sound like a good setup, or should I be looking somewhere else? Keep in mind I don't plan on Supercharging my Cobra or throwing Nitrous in it anytime soon.

I'd leave the flywheel alone. Billet is heavier than the stock units & all it really does is allow the motor to spin to some outragious speed like 18000rpm.
If you're going to do it, get an aluminum one. It'll get rid of some rotating weight, which is the best kind to lose. Not sure if you'll need to re-balance the engine though.
I shy away from the 'king cobra' & HD Ford pressure plates. In my experience they just don't seem to have enough pressure for more than 300hp. I've toasted 2 on mostly stock cars. Maybe it's the way I drive. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
Spec makes good stuff & they're WAY more knowledgable than just about anyone on this board when it comes to clutches.
I like to keep my stock quadrant & get a fender-wall adjuster. It gets rid of the rubber firewall fitting which reduces the spongy feeling. It also leaves the stock adjustment in place so you can still pull the pedal up for most adjustments & use the fender-wall unit for fine tuning. Some say the plastic quadrant will break with a heavy clutch, but I've never seen it happen.

Cool...It turns out that my stock pressure plate was going out, so that was the root of my "Clunking" sound.
Thanks for the advice. Elk Grove Ford offered to re-surface my flywheel for $60, or else I could buy the Billet flywheel for $225. I guess I am better off sticking with the re-surfacing of the stock flywheel if what you said is true about the billet being heavier. I might as well save some money and just leave everything stock as far as the clutch, etc. goes right now, and order just the Firewall adjuster and Quadrant.
