i have a 96 gt also.
Heres what i would do for the money and ease on install.
1.cold air intake 2.h-pipe 3.flow mufflers 4.underdrive pulleys 5.larger throttle body (70-75mm) 6.shorty shifter 7. Gears and headers are hard to install and you might have to take it in to a shop unless you have a lift. 8.lowering suspension for conering and better launches
i hope it helps
