do *not* make a good ground for the battery

you know, normally you'd plug the ground into the block by the #1 cylinder, and that's on a lower head bolt.

or, am I a dumbass and the battery ground goes elsewhere on the block? the terminal is a little small for the motor mount...

Timing chain cover is where it grounds. The back of the head grounds the motor to the firewall via a braided strap. there is another solid wire that grounds to the back of the head, thats ground for the O2 sensor heaters.

that brings me back to my RC car days(10-12 years ago).. me and MILESMERK(miles) were seeing if we could ground the motor to the aluminum chassie.. didnt work.. so from then on i knew not to use alum. for a ground ever.. guess you never had RC cars huh ? [dance]

3 years dirt oval track/offroad racing experience

the T3 is my fave. In the indoor off-road setups with jumps it hauls major ass and has great handling for the bumps. The buggy is faster, but a bitch to drive relatively.

I used to have an RC-10 buggy. Ever since I sold it I've been looking for a gas stadium truck.
But I'm so far out of it that I no longer know what's good...any ideas?

Man, its been awhile for me too. Last thing i bought wasa kyosho gas truck. Was pretty cool, till i sheared the axle off doin jumps. Had a traxxas TRX 1 that was pretty cool. i think the on road awd gas cars are the shit though... 2 spd transmissions, .15 motor. FAST AS HELL. If only i wasnt spending money on all my other projects...

I've always been into the electrics. They are pretty quick too, but sure don't run 45 mph off-roading for 15 minutes straight!

then again, when I zoom down the street, the neighbors don't call the cops [worship]

FYI

Timing cover is made of aluminum and ford used that as a ground.

There is also a ground on the fender and on the back of the heads, but we all know that.

FWIW, the bolt that is used to hold it to that cover is steel and threads into the iron block. I think its grounding capabilities comes from there not the cover....

yeah absolutely. it's the grade-5 steel bolt into the iron head. I imagine the aluminum timing cover would make a decent insulator, where it not for the 2" steel bolt going through it

btw, I was just playing with my car, and I can get 12 volts to any point on the block using the block as a ground from the battery +12, whatever it's doing, it's wurkin'
