***SOLD!!!***
Since I got my old DD back, I am selling my 1984 VW Rabbit GTI. The car has a 1.8 liter 8V motor, & a close ratio 5 speed manual trans. Factory sunroof, factory 14" "Snowflake" wheels, manual steering, NO A/C....The car has been a strong runner & is extremely reliable. gets about 25-32mpg too....Only reason I am selling it is because I got my old 86 Jetta back so I have no need for the car anymore. This car was driven here all the way from Salem Oregon & ran strong with no issues, also got 30mpg along the way so you know its a strong running car....
Here is a list of all the recent new parts since the car was aquired by my dad who was a VW mechanic for over 30 years....
-New clutch -New fuel pump -New alternator (1 month ago) -New radiator -New injectors -Fuel head replaced -4 new tires (only 5k miles) -Front & rear brakes, front wheel bearings, CV boots, timing belt, full tune up, cap, rotor, plugs, & new oil pan were all done around 8k miles ago... -New 2 1/4" exhaust system from the manifold back including a high flow cat, resonator, & muffler which i think is a dynomax. My dad installed this when he got the car a few years back...
The exterior is in pretty decent shape for its age. It has a few minor door dings & dents, but the paint still shines when waxed. The interior is fair. All the seats are clean except the driver seat has some rips. Interior Door panels are in great shape...Has the original 14" OEM wheels....
This car was basically brought back from the dead by my dad since it was in pretty neglected shape when he bought it, but now it runs like a champ with zero problems. The only issues the car has besides a few minor cosmetic ones are it needs new struts & shocks because they are pretty worn out, the window regulator on the driver side is pretty stiff but it rolls down, & it needs a new window crank handle on the passenger side. It needs a new outer door handle on the passenger side too, but it works from the inside of the car....
Thanks,
-Dustin
These cars are pretty rare too. This is the perfect candidate for a resto, or for a nice swap like a 1.8T or a VR6....Dont forget how light this car is, with just a VR6 swap, this could be a great sleeper.... [ December 06, 2008, 03:35 PM: Message edited by: EPIK ]

Hey man on the reals, aint NOBODY else gonna pay your bills. I say you pull the ad and put that shit on ebay. There are VW enthusiast that are into those just like we are into fords.
They will be fighting over that thing and you will get what it is worth and they will be able to preserve it so you will help to build their hobby in the long run!!
I sold a geo metro convertible that was the first year and a specific color to this old man in texas. He wanted one when they were new and just not in the position to buy one until recently. It was clean, like your car. Worth about $500 bucks to me, he gave me $3,200 for it and was happy as a pig in shit.
I made that old man smile when I picked him up at the airport in it and tossed him the keys.
That shit was more priceless than the credit card commercials!!

I think it could fetch close to 3,000.
Remember that these things rust out SOOO bad back east that if someone could come get this and drive it back, they will pay good money.
This one is proof that they rust out and you have to put tons of work into them. Now he went overboard and is gonna lose his ass, but it still has bids on it.

$3k...Thats what someone said on a VW forum as well... I am thinking about Ebay, but that would be a hassle wouldnt u think??
It does have some minor rust from being in the bay area for all its life, but it is very minor....

Thanks guys... i have it up on craigslist & after posting it on few VW forums & getting bombarded with calls, I realized I was selling it for too cheap. I upped the price to $2,300 obo. I know I wont be able to sell it for that much on CAFords, but its easily worth that much...
In the VW community, these things are sought after just like we are about Fox bodies & I have seen them going for anywhere from $2,000 to $4,500 in similar or worse shape than mine....
I have a few interested from out of state, but I am more or less trying to sell it locally. I just dont trust doing a paypal transaction that large... On Ebay, I could probably fetch $3k for this thing....
What do u guys think i should do???

Im glad you took my advise and decided to get your money on.
Anyway, I would ebay it and put it on the rabbit forums.
Take your deposit via paypal and make them pay at time of pickup or mail you a certified money order/check.
Let it post before they get the vehicle.
Or specify cash at time of pickup with a deposit via paypal?
Dan
Good luck.

If I kept it @ $1,500 it would be gone by now, but I am holding out for the right buyer. Im not desperate, so I have no problem sitting on the car 4 a while...
CAFords is not the best place to sell a Mustang, let alone a 24 year old VW..... I put it up for $2,300 so all the lowballers can talk me down to $2,000. Just so u know, I already turned down 3 offers. 1 of them was for $1,800............. BAM!!!!!
Thanks for the free bump [ December 03, 2008, 02:14 AM: Message edited by: EPIK ]
