In late March the Mustangs Across America Convoy Drive event has taken it's 300th registration for the cross country drive to Nashville, Tennessee to celebrate the Mustang's 40th Birthday. Mustang enthusiasts from over five continents and 30 states will converge starting in Ontario, CA and gathering along the five-day route of Interstate 40 better known as the Main Street of America. This will set a new record for a Mustang convoy across the United States originally set in 1994 by Mustangs Across America at 232 Mustangs. Stopping in cities both large and small along the way, the tour has scheduled events with local Mustang clubs in many locations fueling excitement and fanfare as the group of pony cars grows larger and larger. Mustangs of all vintages from 1964 to 2004 are joining the group creating a parade of heritage. The event will be lead by a new 2004 Roush Stage 3 Mustang Convertible courtesy of Roush Performance Inc, a builder of fine race prepared Mustangs. Registrations for the drive continue to pour in. Originally the event had capped registration at 300 cars, but a last minute extension has been added allowing up to 350 Mustangs to join in the event. "We have had such a landslide of enthusiasts wanting to join, we could not turn them away", says Sam Haymart, President of Mustangs Across America Inc. The organization is a small group of Mustang enthusiasts who routinely promote long distance driving events for Mustang. "We have made sure that we have hotels lined up for the additional participants and are making last minute accommodations to meet the demand", adds Haymart. People can pre-register at the MAA website until the March 28th deadline. Any remaining available spots up to the 350 car limit will be registered on site during the event. Registration is $25.00 and includes printed travel and event guides, numbered window placards, name badges, access to discounted hotel rates and VIP activities during the event. Taking place from April 11th to the 15th of 2004, the Mustangs Across America Convoy Drive event arrives in Nashville on Thursday, April 15th - the day the 40th Anniversary Celebration starts. Mustang Club of America is putting on the three day celebration weekend of shows, open track driving and celebratory venues for enthusiasts at Nashville Super Speedway.
