So, how many people want to be the passenger in Suzy's car next cruise? hehe
My next mod will problibly be bigger brakes....I had a video camera in my car.... and got it all ... I really had lots of fun in the turns and taking them at high speeds made it even more exiting....

Can we get that video posted?
It was nice meeting you Sue. Gladd to see that you made it homw safeley after all of the driving today. I also enjoyed meeting Ted. I still don't understand how I caught up to everybody after the red Cobra with the black top took every turn under 20 MPH.
I think I will sleep well tonight. I am tired as shit after staying alert through the canyons.
I have an idea for a cruise on February 24th. It includes a BBQ because I am always hungry at the cruises. I figure we can eat while we walk around and talk to people, then we can go and drive. (It is also my birthday, so everybody can bring me a gift. )
Jesse
Good to finally meet TorquePimp, that guy is fucking hilarious And his car rocks, too. Good thing the piggy left.
Very cool route, probably the best i've been on so far, out of the 6/7 runs i've been on. Only next time, we seperate the "fast" cars from the "stock" cars.
It sucked being towards the back and having to follow 4/5 stock fox's going 30-35mph around turns, I wanted to be up w/ the saleens rippin' around the corners, dammit Oh well, next time.
I have a suggestion for the Fremont police dpeartment...

Hope we have another one soon.
Who was he? What does he have in his car? I got stuck behind him from where we left off in Sunow until we made the left at the stop sign. He went so damn slow. I have a 94 V6 convertible and I was riding his ass most of the time. It looked like a nice car, minus the side stripes, but there is a problem if a V6 wants to pass a Cobra because it is going to slow.
Jesse
Edit: He had some gauges on his A-pillar. He also had a monster tach with a shift light in the middle of his dash. I had to play major catch-up after I passed him because he was turrning in the wrong direction.

ps...I had a lot of fun. Im there for the next cruise.
I think next timw we should takt our cars up to the track after the rain ends....
Nice car by the way....
I had fun....
I got separated from everyone when I left Brian's house. I went the wrong way on Paseo and ended up going to 680 and taking that to Mission, then going from there. I did the run but didn't see a single Mustang. I wonder if you guys were ahead of me or behind me? I did see a few people from the group on 680 S. heading towards San Jose when I was going 680 N. to Mission, but I think they bailed because of the cops
Blown93---Why did you get pulled over? I couldn't figure it out.
Those cops could have handled that completely different. Their whole excuse for being there was a load of crap. They could have rolled up and told everyone who was parked illegally to move their cars asked us to be mellow, shown some interest in the cars and then been on their way. That might have left a good impression of the Fremont Police instead of everything now thinking they are a bunch of pricks. The guy who was in charge was cool to me at least. He threatend to give me a ticket for blocking the pedestrian access from the sidewalk, but relented and said I wasn't blocking the whole thing. he also told one of the other guys to let me slide for no front plate.
Dean--- What did you get ticketed for? The guy writing you up was not cool at all. He tried to give me a ticket for no front plate after the other guy had let me go.
That route was crazy! Some of those roads were very narrow!! I couldn't imagine 30-40 cars running those roads. A couple of times I encountered people coming the other way and barely squeaked by.
I have to say there were some very nice cars. I really liked Harold's ride! Vere very nice! All of the Saleens were very sweet. Gabes car sonded like it didn't like going slow at all!!! I'm glad to hear you didn't get written up Gabe. I hope to get a chance to see oyu run at Sac. some day. It's hard to admit, but I even lied torque pimps car.
It sucks I got seperated from everyone, but I'm thankful I didn't get stuck behind Suzanne! (Girl, turn your stereo down if oyu can't hear your tires squealing)
Who crashed, and where?

ps...hope you can get that video up on the net so we can take a look at it.

Dude! You it was fun being behind 3 saleens and had 1 saleen behind me. I was actually out hanging him. But the saleens made the turns look so easy when i have to drift through them mofos.

I was trippin when i saw Sue facing the other way, I was like "Are we going back?" . At one point i was holding my steering wheel so tight that i honked.lol.It was alot of fun though.
Correction, 4 white saleens. Rudy would be #5, but he had to leave early.
Glad everybody enjoyed. We will never meet at my house again. See all you either in FEB or at SAC.

Jesse,
I think that was me. (Tall guy in a blue shirt) I remembered you from the last big cruise. Seems like you know most of the people by sight so I was asking you who was who and such. I'm pissed I got split up from everyone. I'm glad I came back in one piece.
Eric
Jason, yes there were 4 white Saleens ripping through the corners, Brian, Dennis, Me, and Dave. Rudy would of been 5. You kept up pretty good. All the 1/4 milers finally stepped into Saleen territory
It was me who was right behind the GT that lost it on the turn. It looked to me that she went into the turn too fast and pounded the brake too hard which caused the 180. It was inches away from the tail slamming into the mountain, and another foot away from swiping the on coming Cherokee.

...damn!
i didnt think u had that much pictures of my car ...including the times i just got in the way of the camera . ma bad for getting in the way...like i knew what you were taking pictures of
Hah, you believe whatever you want........
So your the one that was in front of me sliding your ass all over the place.......
I backed off from you when you started sliding your tail, I wanted a little space between us, so I would have room to stop, just in case..........
I'll have to say you were doing a pretty good job, you never lost it....completely.....j/p
When we're running like that and the guy in front of you is sliding, you always give them some space, it never looks good if you hit the guy in front of you..........
I was 2 cars behind the first spinout. It appears your approach speed was to fast and hit the brakes on mid turn or let off the throttle on mid turn. Both are receipes for disaster. Never use the brakes on the apex of a turn (or downshift, for that matter). Always brake before the turns. With roads like these, you especially have to be careful. You have: blind corners, rocks and sand, narrow roadways with oncoming cars (possibly), and the worst of all; unknown territory.
If you want to learn how to drive fast, I would seriously sugest road racing at Sears Point, Laguna, etc.. They have classes that will teach you right/and wrongs.
Also, you have to know your limits and abilties of the car. Stock mustang suspension isn't great with the flexi-flyer chassis. Even the Saleen suspension isn't that great. I felt my car roll around those reverse camber turns a few times. I would look into some suspension mods to hold everything together, that will help out a bit. Even then, I would put money on a Subaru WRX smoking every one of us on that road, but that's another story.
The second spinout was just a loss of control. Once you "floored it" the cars backside came around, which is typical for RWD cars, and very predictable after you've experienced it. The problem you encountered was trying to over correct it. Once it came around, you yanked the steering wheel the opposite way making the car swing to the other side. Then it was like a pendalum, swinging back and forth while you were turning the wheel as fast as you could the opposite direction. I would imagine your foot was still on the floor the whole time, as you were concentrating on steering. If you only knew how close you were to the guard rail.
Don't take my comments the wrong way. I'm not trying to embarass you, or put you down, just trying to help like you asked the board. I really don't want to see you get in an accident, as you almost did a few times yesterday.
Aside from the $60 no front plate ticket, and my $700 digital camera being broken, I thought the cruise was nice, expensive, but nice. Very good choice in roads Brian.
I will see if I can salvage the photos out of my camera.
Thanks......
Sorry about the ticket and the camera......I guess that was one advantage of my being late, I parked way down the street......
I might be able to help with the pics on the camera, if it takes any sort of memory card pop the card and I'll arrange to get it from you and burn them to a cd......I've got external readers for most of those memory cards.

Did you order those Recaro SRD's yet.......those are the one's your looking for right?
There's a place in Washington that's got 20 of them in stock, they're black with the cutout for the sub-belt....I think they're running around $650 each.
The place is called Speedware Motorsports...try http://www.speedwaremotorsports.com/seat/recaro.asp

Not at all. I've had 4 foxes, one of which was a '91 lx w/ a full suspension on it, that car would have been awesome on this run.
I love the foxes, but they weren't nearly as stable around high speed corners or at high speeds like the sn95 cars are.
I felt 100% more confident on this run in my near stock sn95, with only tokico's and springs, than I did in my '93 cobra that had severe understeer and twice the suspenion parts.

I get asked about my car being a GT at least once a week. I still have the running pony on the side and the MUSTANG bumper.
The guy in the Cobra was scraping around some of the turns. All of a sudon I would see sparks come out from under his car. My passanger was pissed at the guy too.
I had a great time, but today I realized I need new tires soon. I am still looking for a job and I don't have $600 for tires right now.

As for the crash,
REDHTGT knows the guy personally. He had a 87-89 white LX. If you look at some of teh pics, you can see his car parked across the street. I heard it was about 2K in damage. Front bumper and fender.
Yes,
I'm thankful my bro did not puke during the course. I was taking turns hard. It would be nice if someone got some pics of me, oh well I guess being in the front its hard to do that. Next time.
I didnt see him because i was more to the front of the line....

That car was loud as hell if it only had a cat back system...it did sound a little bit weird though, like maybe he had a header leak or cracked header...anyone else hear that? And what was he doing going on a cruise if his tires were rubbing? he should have pulled over or something and let everyone pass him.
As for the Saleen wheels rubbing, I don't know. There were Saleens that had Saleen wheels and they were leading the pack. A few others had Saleen wheels and they were taking turns at more than 15 MPH.

Anyway, my name is Jeff and I was the driver of the white mustang lx involved in the accident on Dec 8th. It was pretty small, actually just cosmetic damage to my car. It drives perfect still and aside from a new fender, headlight assembly and (possibly) new bumper cover I made out very well.
The other car involved was what looked like a 97 or maybe 98 grand cherokee. I dont remember exactly the road I was on (I was DEAD last in the pack trying to catch up) but we had just left pleasanton, going up through the hills. Theres a posted 10mph turn somewhere in there and I had underestimated the posted limit...that damn turn is seriously a 10mph turn. Came into it braking after seeing the sign late, started approaching the apex between 15-20ish, but due to late braking I understeered over the yellows.
The cherokee had mainly cosmetic damage as well. The plastic dressing along the bottom of the doors will need to be replaced, no paint needed on it though I dont think since I hit the plastic. Dont know yet. I think the cherokee had rolled to its right (coming around the left turn) and I had serious brake-dive going so my drivers side front corner struck just under the drivers side door of the cherokee. The doors looked...err OK...but Im sure they will be replaced (ack).
Kevin, if you read this thanks a TON for coming back and giving me some advice. Thanks also to Jenn (rdhtgt) and my passenger, my friend Chauncey, for putting up with my initial rants inside the car
So...if anybody has a used drivers side fender, headlight assembly, or bumper cover, (preferrably white) that would fit an 88lx please drop me a line
Jeff
I live in Pleasanton and drive Foothill down to Sunol every 2 or 3 weeks for fun. Those 10 MPH turns are not meant to be taken much faster. I almost nailed a Dodge Ram in September and I almost shit my pants when I realized how close I had come to him. It was also the last time I drove it on a Friday afternoon. (Damn traffic ) I guess you hit the car in one of the last few turns before you are in Sunol.
Who is Kevin? (98 S281 Cobra with the speedster cover?) If you are talking about the guy in the black Cobra convertible, his name is Harold. Harold is good about going back to check on accidents at cruises. He was very helpful after a friend crashed in June. Without him we might not have found the right freeway.
Hope you get the car fixed soon and that the damage to the Jeep does not kill your insurrance rates.
Jesse
On a side note: If we ever do that run again, Sue lives close to where we started. Her house would be a good meeting spot.
[ December 15, 2001: Message edited by: Jesse ]
Im hoping for good luck regarding the cherokee's claim...hoping...
I was pretty sure that the fella that came back was Kevin, perhaps not though, I was a little perturbed at that moment so I may have mixed up his name. He was driving a black <98 cobra I think.
Jesse, I totally hear ya now on some of those corners. WOW. I keep replaying the moment in my mind, but I have come to the conclusion that anything else other than understee, given the situation, would have been disastrous. Oversteer would have cause the jeep to smash into my drivers side quarter panel, spinning me around and most likely putting me into the rocks as well. Trying to trail brake the turn would have possibly caused me to drift into the other lane even further, into a near head-on collision.
Still a bummer though
Im a little confused to who is who here though Paz did we meet at your house?
