Why wouldnt it be good? Asked the shop about the so called break in period of gears, Guy said it takes all bout 10 minutes to break gears when done the right way. Didnt get them in yet anyhow!!

Sounds like the guy at the shop fed you a line. Gears need a break-in. I speak from experience.

j0k3r - I picked my car up from the diff. shop and drove it straight to the track.....5 miles, and raced it. The owner of the shop also said that they would be good to go in a few miles. I doubt that he would be feeding me a line when the install comes with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. 98StangPower - Hey bro, whats up? When are you going to get the gears installed?

IMHO, the idea of breaking in new gears is total . I wonder how cars that are strictly track cars do this? Find some country road and drive around the block a couple of hundred times? How about factory new cars come with the same gears in question? I have never seen a sticker that said "Break in differential gears for the first 500 miles". Anybody out there get a new car and run it through the gears with less than 100 miles? Had any rear gear problems? Nope, I for one don't buy that notion. That doesn't mean I'm right, but I never had any problems with new gears that get an immediate ass whippen from me.

You drove a brand new car home from the dealership, did you not? Did you stop every few minutes and let it "cool down"? Lol... If they are installed right, they don't need break in. Nobody on here breaks in gears, not me, not anyone. And we've all been FINE. Rye - Go to the track. Don't listen to him.

plenty of people get away without breaking in new motors either. Is it a good idea to break it in? Absolutely. Will it be destroyed if you don't? Hardly Like the rear-end snap in half or something? I doubt it. Your $$, you make the call.

I completely agree. I lost to a 5 speed notch about 10 miles after I got my 3.73's. First time I chirped 2nd gear in my life... had to do it one more time just to be sure it was me 60,000 miles later and they're holding up just fine. They've actually quieted down. Just my opinion, but I think the "break in and change the fluid" BS has two real reasons behind it: 1) Gives shops who do a quickie job and not measure everything an excuse for when the gears whine. 2) They get to charge you $50 more for when you come back for an unneeded fluid change. Too much in this hobby
