GREAT night at Sac. Traffic was horrible but the very small crowd was worth the 2+ hour drive.
The good stuff. All runs on ET Drags and unbolted muflers. Plenty of ice on intake, short belt.
Run 1, 48 psi fuel pressure, 14 degrees timing
2.10 60 ft. bogggg 5.675 8.607 no mph 11.129 13.26 at 106.42!! mph
Run 2 no changes 1.866 60 ft. 5.391 8.317 at 84.548 mph 10.836 12.972 at 106.576 mph
Run 3, 45 psi fuel pressure 2.074 60 ft. Botched burnout (no water) 5.634 8.563 at 84.657 mph 11.077 13.207 at 106.91!! mph How's that for a stock cam?!!
If you leave the spout connector out you lose 3mph. Trust me...
Run 7, 45 psi FP, 18 degres timing, raced Chirag. 1.823 60 ft. 5.281 8.186 at 84.850 mph 10.691 12.815 at 106.74 mph!!
Run 8, same as 7 1.844 60 ft. 5.322 8.228 at 84.901 mph 10.733 12.860 at 106.725 mph!
Awesome night! Will try timing backed off to 16* in two weeks. Looking for that 107.x mph an 12.7x ET.../

Good numbers Jim. That 2.95 1st gear is really hurting you though :-(
Who won the race between you and chirag? What kinda numbers has be posted with the stock cam compared to the one he had previously?
Also, any progress on the '65? I love that car. Last thing I remember is you were thinking about a TT. I'm sure the '92 is taking up most of your time/money right now. Luke

Hey Luke,
My stock cam/Edelbrock combo is no match for Jim's TFS headed beast. His car flat out halls ass. The lightly worked heads and ported cobra is a great match.
Actually last night was the first time I ran my car with stock cam. The 24lbs are too rich (cant get pressure below 30psi). So as it got cooler it ran better, best was 13.29 @ 104.6 on a 1.88 (nittos)
Its a far cry from the 108mph it ran with the lunati. But its 100x more streetable now, no bucking, etc. With 19's it should pick up a little more, be 12.99 capable with nittos.
we need to get you up there man, it was pretty light last nigh.

Luke- The '65 waits patiently. I did pick up a second turbo from U-Pull-It. It needs some pricey stuff like a tranny and 9" rear end. I have exhaust and electric fan left to do on my '92 and then I can start saving up for the "real" race car...

Chirag, does the increase in driveability offset the loss of power for you? I know how important having a tolerable daily driver is, especially one that sees some serious mileage.
If you were doing it again, would you lean towards tfs or afr, ot does the reliability factor of the Edelbrocks still appeal to you? I should probably take this to e-mail; I'm ruining Jim's post here, lol, sorry Jim.
Jim, what car did you take the turbos from? Sounds like quite a project. Good Luck.

LOL! Not ruining anything, Bud! The more useful info. in the post, the beter.
The turbo's came off of Thunderbird Turbocoupes w/ manual transmissions. The water cooled bearings usually mean a long life. I may pick up a rebuild kit (or kits) and refurb them myself. The piping wiull be the hardest part...

edit- Either TW's or AFR's. Box stock the AFR 165's are a littel quicker than the TW's. They are CNC ported where the TW's are as cast. [ June 29, 2002, 10:40 AM: Message edited by: FasterDamnit ]

Heu Luke, Well since Jim doesn't mind.... (I'll tie it in with his thread though..)
His combo is a great example of what you can achieve while maintaining driveability. Stock cam means no need to deal with custom tuning, chips, etc... so to have all that power increase from heads and intake, and other bolt ons, is definately much more appealing to me.
Personally i think the 88 processor (AOD), being 1st year mass air, is not suited for mods that create alot of variance at the O2 sensor..i.e. a lopey cam. Just my theory.. I bet a cam with similar specs but on a 114lsa would be oka, but the 110lsa really seemed to wack out the processor and its ability to maintain a decent AF ratio at low speeds- causing bucking, hunting idle, etc. Plenty of people with 90+ stangs and much larger cams are not having such problems.
Just give me a little time to work with this setup.. put in the 19's, remember i'm running 3.55's and nittos.. so there is some et hiding there.
But, i do love the drivability. I sat it 2hs of traffic last week, and 3hrs worth yesterday going to sac... it never bucked, in fact i have found that sweet spot where i can put the car into first or second without having to press the clutch!

Chirag I have played with drilling an air hole in the throttle blade and had good luck.
Ted on here with a 93 ( I have to give you that with your theory on the earlier processors, this may be valid cause I have had success on only 90 and later cars when I think about it) I installed a TFS stage 1 cam on his cobra intaked Brodix headed 5.0L and it is a puppy dog.
Also Jim your car ran like a mofo with the stock heads but I would have expected it to run a tad bit harder with the TFS heads on it than it ran. Either way I must admit that it runs like a mofo for a stock cam beast but I was REALLY REALLY impressed with the way it ran without the TFS.
How fast did you go with stock headers on it if you ever ran it with stock headers, that is?

Ike- Hopefully in the next two weeks I can get back to the track- on vacation Sun til the 8th.
PI5.S- Never had the stock headers on w/ the 5 speed. Found the Flowtechs for only $20, out-of-box deal at Summit. Not very good quality. I think the best mph w/ stock heads and intake was 102.1 and 102.5 w/ the ported Cobra and a bad mismatch. I gained 4.5mph (so far) from the head swap and -0.54 in ET. You consider that lacking? I am very pleased considering I am only running .471 lift and ~ 210* duration at .050" lift. There is flow still in the heads not tapped...

It's still there. At least the driveshaft loop was off and I could have some fun. Saw a LS1 Z28 cruisin' down a long stretch of empty highway (unnamed to protect the guilty) and caught up to him. White w/ orange stripes (ugh). As I got within 1 car length he hit it and so did I- we stayed even all the way to around 130+! I was in fifth by then. I am VERY pleased with that run. We did a couple more short blasts and it was always dead even. He must have been stock. I couldn't catch him and he couldn't lose me. Not bad for being shy 44 cubic inches...

Hey, Aaron! It is still full weight right at 3200 according to the scale at Sac. That is w/ the spare and sound deadining out of the trunk and about 1/4 tank, and before the head swap. And, yes, POS is still there! Looking for a good deal on a better one...
