Went out to tnt since the weather was unusually cool for the first day of summer. The track prep was excellent, my best pass went like this

1.80
88.03
12.48
111.25

That is a new best on the nittos by only .02, but when I bought these tires I didn't imagine they would hook up so well. I also got a new best 60 ft of 1.77 on the previous pass.
There was also another red 90 GT that managed to pull a 1.71 on the same tires which was very impressive to see.

Please describe your burnout and launch techniques. My 245/50/16 Nitto's have not worked well, yet...

Jim- I won't be of much help here because I don't have a routine. I do a moderate first gear burnout. I'm not even sure what I was leaving at but it was at least 3k, probably 3.5 or so. Then kind of ride the clutch, its hard to put in words. Lowering tire pressure doesn't seem to help me so I leave them around 24 psi. Most people seem to get best results with a real big burnout and pressures in the mid to high teens. I wasn't able to do better than 1.91 until about 2 months ago. The tires have about 6000 miles on them now so maybe they work better after some miles or it was just driver error on my part. Congrats on your new times, you should have no problems hitting 107 mph.

Shaun- How is the Cobra coming along.

I think Jim's problem is the T-5Z and 3.73 rear, compared to us 'normal' T5 guys he's launching on 3.27's. That combo never seems to get out of 1.8x land.

good runs Scott, see you out there next time [Wink]

Scott,
The 331 is sitting in the garage. I'm still waiting for a few parts. The more I work on it, the more parts I need!!! It's got a Probe girdle & the stupid pan won't fit with the pick-up!
So, now I need a pan & pickup.

The heads came back, but I don't like the way they turned out, so I'm going to make a few calls & get that straightened out.

Gotta call Incon too. I need a few hoses...If they aren't there/out of business, I'll have to imprevise....

It's just one thing after the other!

Joe- yeah that is a definite disadvantage. So when do you plan on making some passes up here.

Shaun- Sounds like going to have plenty of power. Jeff had the same problem when he put the Probe support on his car. He had to go with a Canton pan and pickup, which is for sale by the way.

Good times scott, I wish i could say i hit my best but the best run was a 11.71 with a 1.71 60 foot. I think im having some clutch sliping problems but we will se what happens. My car seems to run consistant times, which i guess would be a good thing if i gave a shit about bracket racing.

91 pony who put on the probe girdle? The machine shop that put mine on said they wont do another without line honing it with the block they had a hard time getting uverything perfect. They also had to clearance parts of the girdle for the pump. Another thing that was needed was modification of the pickups mounting location in order for it to fit correctly with the girdle under there as well. I also have a probe girdle.

Hey Bro, I posted that under Heather's profile (91PONY).
The machine shop that did the engine put the girdle on. So, it's been line-honed for correct bearing clearance. The caps did not requrire any clearancing. This is the $300 race girdle from Probe, not the street one, so it's a bit thicker & wider. I did have to clearance the pump just a little & it's on there now. I had the pickup modified per the instructions & basically I need a pan with a deeper mid-section. I tried laying the pick-up tube next to the girdle & spent a few hours with a torch bending it, but it still doesn't fit right & now the pickup is all f'ed up, so I don't want to use it.
Man, it's all the little things that set you back! Oh well, I'm hoping the cam will be here today so I can degree it & start piecing it together.

An R or A4 would be nice, but the extra $$$ is incredible! Although I just ran accross an A4 Bennett built 349 for sale for just a little more than what I picked mine up for. Used of course, built for 8's...
I'm not planning on running enough HP to blow it though. Not yet anyway. [Wink]
Kinda sucks. I just ran out of $$$ & my heads are bare. Dis-assembled them cause the machine shop put the wrong stuff on. Ed Curtis will be sending me some good stuff, but that may be held off for a while. Priorities...
Say, you wouldn't happen to know where I can get a seat pocket cutter would you? I want to machine the heads for dual springs.

I can get the heads machined for you. Cheapo or prolly a freebee but thing is hard to catch up with me as of late.

You can try to shoot me a call but I have a helluva time getting back to folks and getting up to Sac. Ill try tho or I could just send you to where I go.

I know Chirag has went there a couple times.

Also you are using turbes which is alot easier on the motor than my big bottle and compression.

But a block is a block and from what I can tell (and have heard) no matter how you make your power it is usually bye bye time over 550 flywheel horsies, especially learning to put a tune on the bitch.

I was quoted $40 from Hex Hutchinson. I was actually looking to do it myself, but I can't seem to find the tool. I may have found it on Summit, but it's over $100, so that's not really cost effective. Any ideas were to get the tool from?
Buying tools & learning how to use them is just as important (to me) as making power.

Find a good buddy to split the cost of it?

As far as blocks I want to wait and see how well UJSLST brothers B50 sportsman block holds up once he adds some boost.

That is a cheaper alternative and doesnt look to bad in form ( I have seen a few )

Too bad ford didn't give us 4-bolt mains w/ strong webbing from the factory.
These days it's all too easy to split a block on a street setup.
