Just wondering if anyone is into spinning records on turntables? I started collecting soul 45 records and some rap LP's for about a year now and I don't see this collection ending anytime soon since I'm getting deeper into rare soul records.

I loved spinnin vinyls, there is no sound like hearing the crack and pop of vinyls. I had a pair of 1200's and a vestax mixer. I used to do garage parties back in the days for close friends. But i really enjoyed em, too bad i sold my setup and records.

I don't DJ. I just sample off of them. Epik is a DJ.

I've been wanting some technics turn tables but I don't know enough about them to know which ones would be the best for the buck. I don't plan on DJ'ing just messing around at family parties or just do like I do now and just spin some soul for the hell of it.
I don't know Epik personally but I don't know if he spins vinyl like that. Most DJ's nowadays are all digital.

Epik probably has thousands of records. But like most DJ's now, it's hard to justify transporting a ton of records to gigs. Hell Neight I probably got over 500 records that I keep at my parents house.
My Dad was a DJ back in the 70's and early 80's. Thats how I ended up with a good collection of rock, funk and soul records. [ 2016-08-22, 11:27 AM: Message edited by: SLOWBACK 67 ]

Ok then I was wrong! Well what kinda records you got that you'd be willing to let go of? Do you have any Dynamite Singletary records?

Epik probably has everyone beat by a mile. I think he still spins vinyl now and then I'm sure. [ 2016-08-22, 11:59 AM: Message edited by: adower ]

Damn I ain't been on here in forever, but my ears were ringing with some mentions lol...
I started collecting vinyl in 1994, & it's safe to say my collection is pretty insane! I have no idea how many records I have, but my collection fills up 2 of the large IKEA book shelves, and then some! I collect everything from classic jazz, funk, soul, rock, Latin, reggae, hip hop, etc. Although I still buy records almost weekly, I usually use Serato with turntables or a most recently a pioneer controller at most of my gigs, in which I DJ full time 4-6 days a week. I do break out my wax at select events around town, but mostly just use them at home these days!
That being said, vinyl collecting and digging is one of my favorite things in life, and I would never part with the majority of my collection! I will get some pics later after I get home from Djing tonight!
Enjoy your new found hobby Neight, and thanks for the mentions everyone!

Personal preference, I'm all about the vinyl, but at most of my gigs I use Serato, because it's easier, I feel I've earned it after 22 years of Djing, and much of the new music (that I hate, but have to spin to keep the crowds happy) doesn't come out on vinyl. I do have a couple nights a month where I spin all vinyl, and it's a ton of fun!

Back in high school a bunch of friends and I used to have a "DJ crew." We had the whole setup - 3 Technic 1200s (2 were the black special edition ones), a 3-ch Vestax mixer (super lubricated for my boy to scratch with), amps, speakers, subs, lights, etc...spinning vinyl at parties was fun as hell! We didn't use any of those fancy softwares they have nowadays...purely beat-matching in our headphones from table to table! We did school dances, house parties, etc! Was a blast! All that and we had our parents drive all our equipment from place to place since we didn't have our license yet Those were the days!

Also, if you get some turntables, and you want to actually mix with them, make sure they are direct drive (not belt drive), preferable technics SL-1200s. Feel free to pm me if you need any help.

Damn I didn't think y'all were that deep into this! I wish I lived back then when house parties were bumping with vinyl spinning but I guess I was born due to those parties. lol I been noticing that a lot of parties DJ's straight suck. Most people don't notice it but I do and it bothers me how offbeat they are and they're using software on their laptops that I'm sure help.
I think the Technics 1200's are the ones my uncle has and I like them I just don't know what the difference in numbers mean. Is the higher the number the better or what?

I bet djing at a club gets old fast. Probably have to play the same 20 songs over and over every night.

Yeah I got a couple crates. Personally love the feel and artwork on 12" rather than CDs.
Just saw QBert last week tear it up. Wish I could trade some mustang parts for some decks..

Artwork on old albums are the best!!! Very creative covers have come out over the years. Hell some albums had naked people and real animals..... Probably at the same time on a few of them LOL.
