Just do it yourself. [Cool]

This is my first time doing this work and find it this far remarkably easy to lay. The work is all in the block sanding. But a little feather fill g2 and this thing blocks out razor straight.

Contrary to popular belief it is not illegal to paint at home epa allows for 2 vehicles per year as long as you are not doing it for profit.

Actually if you have neighbors that have a problem with you painting, they can call the city on you. Atleast in Fremont they told me that I couldn't use compressed air to spray paint. So i asked them, "What about a spray can?" They said that was fine, but using a compressor to spray paint is against the CCR.

Can't even dismantle cars in Fremont.

You can do the following to your car:
Change the wheels.
Swap out motors.
Change transmission.
Swap out car parts.
Remove the interior.

But not all at the same time.

Right right.

Each city can have its municipal ordinances. (Or county)

However most are bs fines $150 bucks or so with a 15 day seize order. I'd pay the fine and keep spraying for those 15 days. Fed fines are the one that can run 10-15k. But since they have exemptions for that then you're in the clear.

In addition to this I have only seen a handful of cities or counties that specifically target compressed air spraying. Most just brush on the subject of auto repair as a business in your residence. They don't want 10 broken down cars around your property.

Most are complaint oriented and if you do a double filtration exhaust it should capture most of the odor.

Yes sir.

This one I built with 1" schedule 40. Next I would do with at least 1.25 so it doesn't bow as bad.

Some 6mill plastic. Heater filters. 2 box fans for exhaust zipper entrance with 2x4 to pinch off the bottom to floor seal. Two packs of duck tape and the thing seals nicely.

I put the intake filters 4 20x30 on the top and the exhaust 2 double 20x30 with fan pulling air out of room. Clears it in no time plus being intake is on top and exhaust on bottom it brings the overspray to the floor and not on the stuff your spraying.

My guns are tcp 1.8 for high build 1.4 for sealers. Base and clear a devilbiss plus 1.2 1.3 or 1.4 kit.

Tyvex suit. Sealed goggles. Heavy gloves. Hobby air fresh air kit. I don't believe in carbon filters for long exposure times. The hobby air is in my compressor room that's out of the garage. It's ran into the garage where I plug into by 3/4 pvc.

The compressor is a Quincy 60gal 5hp 2 stage. Has filtered IR regulator. Goes into 3/4 copper tubing that is about 30ft long with 3 water traps with drains along the way. From there it goes into a desiccant filter right into the pvc/rubber hose to keep it from kinking. The guns have a particulate filter and regulator. So far I have gotten zero air contaminants.

Oh and I usually run the air conditioner in the garage while I'm spraying to lower the humidity level and make sure the air coming in is about 75-77*.

I have heard of turbine units for approx. $1500... never tried it, don't know anyone that has tried. Although- I would try it if I had to!!!

Hey man just wondering what kinda paint you use to paint your car. Was it a solvent based or new water based type paint? I'm looking into doing my own paint too just want sure if you can spray clear without backing it. Any answer would help thanks.

I've been using solvent based products.

Since I'm not a pro nor do I have a perfect booth it tends to spray easier.

Not as sensitive to humidity or air supply cleanliness.

Solvent based paint sprays thick. Helping hide some of the imperfections I may have left in the body work. It's not unheard of people spraying right on 400grit sand scratches and not seeing a difference if the color is solid. But with a waterborne you better sand it razor flat to 800grit otherwise all those sanding scratches are gonna pop back up

The equipment is usually cheaper too. Where as my gun was roughly 360 bucks the one for waterborne paint would be about about double that amount.

There's also a lot of more info about solvents based paints sprayed by a DIY kind of person.

I can tell it is a very clean resto and I still respect first gen SBC but out of curiosity, why not go with at least a 5.3 truck engine? Given their affordability, reliability, and MPG. I love a RCSB, especially in white so I'm not hating. Just curious [Smile]

Just in headers,oil pan, motor mounts, adapters for steering lines and brackets for sanden your in about 1,500 bucks plus a rebuilt 5.3 still gonna run you about 2k and there's a need for wiring computer tune the rest of the accessories including water pump balancer pulley alternator and steering pump.

This whole set up rebuilt 355 lunati cam 7qt pan edelbroxk heads 1.6 roller rockers headers fuel injection wiring computer intake all pulleys with polished sanden was had for about 3500 new.

Plus the owner wanted 350 powered. Then comes the hp output. This set up thanks to the tpi will prob do about 260/360. A stock 5.3 will do about 260/260. Now if you sink another $800 in springs timing chain oil pump and cam with lifters it will do about 330/330 since it would prob have longtube swap headers.

Long explanation sorry lol. But we did make calculations for everything. The owner wanted a 100% new set up so even though I have 2 spare ls 6.0 engines he wanted the 350. Lucky for me I had 85% of the parts on hand so it was a no brainer.
