I think this a a topic we all talk about when it's already to late. This is what I'm talking about , when I go to a shop to get work done like machine shop auto body , ect ect after I know that the shop knows what they are doing of course and we settle on price or quote is good the next thing I ask and this is what this thread is about "Turn around time!" How long is the job going to take .I take a look around and see if similar jobs are being taken care of and jus not sitting is the shop. is it a "Jail "for cars or car parts. Some times you can do your research and go by in a period of a month and see the jobs get completed by said shop in a timely manor or see if the shop owner or person moonlighting at a shop is jus a good bullshitter "salesmen" most good reputable shops have you pay when the jobs finished or if parts don't exceed the price of value of the car.. I always ask when should the job be done and what's the latest if you run into problems ... You should get a straight up answer... If the job starts to take longer then expected and you get the family emergency or health or death in the family bullshit take the parts of car and run! Usually a sign of lies and these shops are usually a robing Peter to pay Paul type of shops.... I just hate having to hold a guy's hand or crack a whip to get work or jobs done when promised . Sorry for the bad punctuation and bad grammar, I'm no English expert, lol. What do you guys do to avoid this, and what has any of you guys experience with said topic... I think we talk about this when its to late..look forward to everyone's response .. Good day CAFORDs [ 2015-04-22, 10:14 AM: Message edited by: 50Reasons ]

I've only had to take my car to a shop three times(mufflers, subframe connectors, torque boxes). What I did was first find a shop who had done the work before or is knowledgeable in Mustangs. Now what I found out(the hard way ) was that you should ask for a turnaround time and once that date has passed and it's not even close to complete then either let them know whats up or just take your shit and leave!

They're men with integrity, and then we have some lazy ass punk bitches who are lying piece of shits in this industry who run away and still open a shop around town or even around the country. The best thing to do is be straight up when then when you pull out the cash to get the job done. I will always remember the Scarface movie when the drug lord told tony 'Don't you ever fuck me tony". Use that quote, don't make friends around a job for your car. It's just business, if he fucks you over with that bullshit you and he will know you mean business. Personally, I do shit my way, better best believe no one will fuck me over.

I've learned to be VERY cautious when it comes to mechanic/autobody shops. WAY too many dishonest people out there.

What made you learn to be cautious when it comes to these shops? Have you had bad dealing in the past can you share your experience .. And if so, is the shop still in business , what's the name of the shop? I think we need to get the info out to avoid certain shops or certain shop owners I think that's how this forum can help us.. I think in a lot of situations we might be to embarrassed to talk about how someone gets over on us .. But in my opinion the best way to get back at them is to get the information out to the public so we can make sure they can't run a business anymore and take advantage of anyone else.. Just my .02 cents

I do most of my own work but when it comes to machine shop stuff, I go where most of the racers go to get their work done.
I think where most people get in trouble is when they try to go to the cheapest place they can fine.
