It is a stage 2 HD unit from Monster Transmission. It will shift normal for a good 30-40 minutes then all of a sudden it will lose 3rd and 4th only 1st and 2nd will work if I shift manually. I was told this is called "limp mode". There is no CEL or any codes detected (used snap on scan tool). once shut off for about 20-30 minutes it will shift fine and then continue to do the same thing. I have already been in contact with monster and sent it back. They replaced the up and down shift solenoids, but that didn't fix the problem. So now I swapped out the TCM (trans. control module) with an ACDelco reman unit and only park and reverse would work. If you put it in drive, it would feel like its starting off in 2nd. The selector on the dash would only read 1st gear no matter what gear the trans was in while the new TCM was installed. So I put the stock TCM back in and it was functioning better than the replacement. I also replaced the MLP switch (neutral safety switch) so now I am going to inspect the trans wiring harness.

With a gm scan tool is the only way I would know how to do it.

the tcm is part of the ecm. its not separate like the 6speed autos. have you scanned the trans temp to see what it is when you loose shifting capabilities. temp is the only that will put a gm trans in limp mode that i know of, also with a built trans i would assume u have a upgraded stall converter. if u want to give me a call at my shop i can try to help you over the phone.

On this car (06' gto) the TCM is located behind the driver side kick panel and the ECM is under the hood on the driver side wheel well. I did a live diagnostics while driving and the temp seemed normal (I don't recall the exact temp) but I will also look into that as well. I went with a stock stall because its my daily driver. When my stock trans went, it started to slip and I could smell it getting hot and as soon as it went into limp mode, it threw a CEL with a bunch of codes like front pump failure etc.

No worries, figured it was you lol. Thanks man I appreciate the advice [patriot] I have been in contact with Monster and unfortunately I am on my own at this point. It's a process of elimination now. I've sent the trans back to be inspected and they found no issues, but did replace the shift solenoids and seals because it was leaking like crazy. So now since I bought the New TCM, I'm going to have it programmed at a local GM dealership and go from there. They charge $160, does that seem about right?

Okay, so on Wednesday I took my car to my local chevy dealership and had the TCM programmed and all was good for about 60+ miles...Then during a lane change it jumped from 3rd to 2nd then back to 3rd then lost 3rd and 4th again, but this time threw a CEL P0700 basically saying either the TCM malfunctioned or it detected a slip and alerted the ECM to throw a CEL...So I clear the code and drive the car. It shifts fine 1-3 but lost 4th gear...Could I have a bad ECM now? Forgot to mention, when the CEL came on my "TCS off" indicator came on and would not come back on if I pushed the button, but when I cleared the code it functioned normal again.

Yup that's my next step...think I should take it to a dealership over a garage? I know it will cost an arm and a leg, but at this point I just want it fixed..
