I hear rumors that soon California will be charging drivers so many cents per mile they driver per year. Is this true? If it is then I think its a good idea so long as they get rid of all taxes on gas and the per mile charge is not something crazy. Kinda not fair that all these folks driving electric cars 10 to 20K miles per year dont have to help maintian the roads they use. I have no kids but I still have to pay for the public schools out of my property taxes.
Anyone heard if this will go through and what the per mile charge may be?

u best believe if they do start charging per mile, I will be commuting in my old school without the speedo cable.

I don't have that option but I will be driving my car around town in only reverse so my odometer doesn't go up

If this is the case, I will be disconnecting my odometer and will plug it in for only 1000 miles a year lol

I see lots of folks getting back up gauge clusters. One for daily driving then one to swap in at mileage check time.

I vote for all this bullshit. I've been wanting to make one of my old schools a legit commuter. Fuel injected and 6 speeds. Oh Ya with Ac [ 2015-01-24, 11:39 PM: Message edited by: 68dustin ]

The state says they're talking in 2.6 billion dollars or whatever to fix roads where they used to take in 2.8 billion. The better mileage cars are means less money collected through gas tax. I don't think mileage is the only option. Maybe they should do some hybrid tax.
