Is Vallejo as shitty as everyone says it. Thinking about purchasing a house but don't want to fear for my life. Let me know what some good areas are.
Thank you,
Eric

check Vallejo pd crime map, or go to their pd station and inquire if you want firsthand crime stats in the V town city. also check meganslaw.com for sex offenders in the area

I just bought a house in vallejo a little over a year ago, any where near columbis parkway is a pretty good area. I live in a beautiful area up here with no problems the year I lived here, what is you budget? And if you would like to come take a tour of my neighborhood I would be more than willing to show you around.

Bought my house almost 5 years ago. There is good and bad places to live.
if you have or plan to have kids just know that right now there are only 2-3 elementary schools that are good and jr high and high school might have to be private school to achieve quality bs free education.
In the end if you buy, you can always rent it out. my house will rent for almost twice what my mortgage is, and I live in a fairly quite no BS neighborhood.
I'm working on house number and a possible condo as well. Gotta think end game. The house I bought has already accrued $90k in value in 5 years.

The public schools sucks for the most part. They are way worse then when I went to school. But I think kids in general are worse because of the lack of proper parenting. I live in central Vallejo and it's not terribly bad. But I've have my cars broken into a few times. Benicia isn't much farther and I'd prefer to buy a home there knowing I'm gonna have kids in the future.

I agree with benicia being a better choice. When a city goes bankrupt they have to cut services that are vital to a healthy city.

I couldn't do the 580 commute from hell. I'd loose my shit dealing with that everyday.

best advice in this thread so far..
dont buy in a crappy ass neighborhood if you can afford to be in a better place but sacrifice a bit on the type of house you get. in the end, you'll look at a better return on your investment and your kids(if you have any) will be better off by being in a better schools(or at least thats the intent).
