I'd go German Shepard. There's actually a member here selling some I think. Any dog however will do as you will it to as long as it is trained properly. You obviously want an intelligent dog to begin with so training is easier.

Female doberman. Raised my dobi from a puppy with my 2 year old and now she protects him. Anytime he crys she comes to his side. If i even play beat him up she tries to stop me from doing it.

I have a German Shepard. Friendly and playful to family and to friends when you're with them. Aggressive and protective to strangers walking past the house, strange noises. Perfect animal for your needs.

I have a female boston terrier and a male boxer. Both breeds are awesome dogs! Very friendly, loyal, and smart. Both can be stubborn at times, but excellent dogs for a family. The boston terrier is like a mini version of the boxer (looks and personality) and they both make great pets. If you want a "guard dog," boxers are known to protect kids of the family and look mean enough to scare away your average idiot trying to run into your house/yard. I highly recommend them

I have a pitbull and he's good with kids if they piss him off he just walks away from them and goes lays somewhere where you can't see him. He's also a smart and loyal dog I like how we can leave him outside with the gate wide open and he'll never leave even if someone is walking by he just sits there and stares them down. Best part is that NO ONE EVER tries to get into the gate when they see him in the front yard which is where he chills all day.

Any dog you choose is a great choice. Only thing I will tell people don't EVER trust any dog left alone with your children!!!! I don't care how great the dog is. Sure a tiny dog and an older kid but a tiny dog and infant no. They can bite your kid and scar them for life.

It all depends on how they were trained. A hyper ass dog will probably do that but a dog like NEIGHTs wouldn't do that. I know for sure my two wont.

You shouldn't leave anyone alone with your child. More likely to be hurt by a human than a dog.
As for what don breed. I say American Staffordshire Terrier.

Very true!!! I feel the same. But I'll still say I won't let my ten year old son play alone with our husky and that dog is very good when he plays not ruff at all. I still would hate to see something happen.

I have had nothing but pitbulls my whole life, and they are always great with kids.. And they are also protective when/if the time comes.. It all comes down to how you raise them and how you train them.. Its just like a kid, gotta start teaching em right from wrong when theyre little..

If you can afford it get a Doberman Pincher! I got my kids one when they were 1.5 years old! Best dog ever and when the kids are outside or in the backyard playing this dog stays by them and lets just say if you get close, you will not survive!!!
Oh ya my dog and my twin boys have the same birth date!

I own an American red nose terrier and I couldn't be any happier he's extremely loyal, gentle and friendly. I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old and he watches them while they play outside and I feel safe knowing he's there guarding them. I wouldn't own any other breed other than American pitbull terriers, but you should really do your research before purchasing or saving a dog from a shelter. You need to make sure your lifestyle fits the dogs. If you want a bigger breed dog that's active you need to make sure you have time for longer walks than most breeds. If you decide to buy a stubborn breed dog you need to make sure you can train your dog to obey your commands. Anyways good luck I'm sure you'll make the right decision.
