Do they actually benefit in performance or just used to clear tall valve covers?

Depends if the setup needs more runner length or not. What is the intake, and what do you have done to the car?

When they first came out, they claimed to help keep the upper intake cooler but I never saw any tests results of that

It's a basic set up. Full bolt ons, ported and polished aluminum gt40x heads, 1.7 rockers, e303 cam, 93 cobra upper nd lower. I was thinking off getting my upper n lower ported with a spacer(to get more airflow) or just sell it and buying a different intake.

Upper does not need to be ported for that setup, but the lower could use some help. The spacer wont do shit for you but lose some top end needed rpm and HP, and gain a tad bit of torque. If it was me I wouldn't waste the money on a stupid spacer. That cobra does not need any more runner length.

I don't have any experience with it on an EFI vehicle.

but on my 67, I didn't notice any difference except for a "louder" air noise. lol
