So now I need a new block and heads. How does damage like this happen? It's missing a part of the block. [ 2013-09-08, 10:09 AM: Message edited by: Pure Stang ]

I have no idea. Engine only had 25-30k miles. It never saw red line since it never made power in that range.

Find a bare block with stock machine work and do a forged 327 kit

Detonation. Only time I ever did that was with billy tucker in my black car rip, my fuel solenoid went south and only nitrous was being injected.
Ran like an animal for about 4 seconds.

Well from what it seems it happens when it's under some kind of boost/power adder. Will this still happen when you are na?

Did any of the valve train break? High compression, exhaust valve not opening up causing super high compression detonation. Definitely some talent there to do all that! Seems like you got your winter project now. Sorry for the loss.

I already got something in the works. The valve train looks good. No bent valves or any damage to the pistons them selves.

I was thinking valve train as in wiped out cam lobe or broken lifter or pushrods. What's the new setup?

Cam lifter and pushrods look great. If all plans out well going the stroker route unless its out if my budget then a rebuilt 302 bored 30 over and spray.

Did it overheat in the past? Looks like it coulda blown the head gasket or cracked the head first , then when it was swapping combustion is probably why the block burned out like that. Kinda like when you get a burned exhaust valve , when the compression finds a small passage way to go past it gets superheated and starts eroding the metal.. Usually(not always and i cant see them very well) with detonation you'll see pock marks on the valve faces and piston..

After the trip to knotts it had a tick. Then two weeks later the whole car started shaking on my way back from Modesto. Got lucky I made it back. I think the heat and the stop and go traffic in LA did it. It was over 100 and stuck in traffic for 3hrs. I thought it was just a lifter. But it's ok only and excuse to build something bigger and better
