I'm looking for a job change, and plan to join the police academy sometime soon. For the mean time, I was thinking of getting my guard card and the armed carry permit as well!
Anyone in this profession? How do you like it? And where have you trained?

I did security for a whole in the city as a part time job for extra money, it was ok cuz we only did concerts so I got to see plenty of good shows, but as a full time gig I couldn't do it!!! Dealing with too much drama with not enough pay!!!

i heard knowing how to write up a good police report is also a big part of LE work...something to think about as well, not just the gun part.

Armed Guards make like 16-18 an hour plus depending on where you are and your experience. If he's broke he's got some bad habits.

Regardless of his habits I would not risk my life for $16-$18 per hour lol...

I'm one. If you want to be a cop its a good route to go. Most guard company's are paying 14 starting. Find a job in a good area and you will find it kick back. Dont get me wrong shit can go Bad quick, but don't risk your life for shit. If any shit goes down where I work (4 banks on the property) my ass would be hiding. I'm doing this to save for my business, but looking to pick something with higher pay.

^ definitely not going that route.! I know it's not the best paying job and i am not going to make a career out of it. I'm using it as a chance to build my resume, and just something new for a change. I work at jiffy lube now, and it's just to repetitive and not in love with it. I do plan to join the police academy, so I was thinking I can use it as experience, and a foot in the door with a job is somewhat related. I'm 23, just trying to get my act together.

I've worked as a security guard for the last 10 yrs im 28 and im making $37hr or $2500 per private contract. Most security firms pay according to experience. As an entry level guard the risk is very low because all u do is observe and report.

I did it for about 4 years, never armed though. I did allot of night shifts in office buildings and warehouses. Also did gate security at some gated communities. If you do unarmed and don't mind a ton of overtime, try and get a Flex Officer position. You basically cover anybody that calls in sick or does not show. I was getting $16/hr at my last job but I was putting in quite a few 100hr work weeks. Burnt out on that real fast but made allot while I was doing it.

^ that's what I like to hear! I don't mind the work, as its something I really want to get into. And at least the pay would be worth it!! Need to pay rent, as my mom doesn't work! *man of the house I guess*
Where did you take your class at?
And I work at jiffy lube in Benicia
