This would be a very radical way to go so I need to take a minute a find my flame suit.....

Reinstitute the draft.

Like they have it in Isreal. Anyone 18 would serve 4 years in the military, even in peace time.

I think there would be a lot of benefits for young immature people to be required to learn some discipline at such a young age. Be around other people who straighten out the miscreants. Learn some skills that may give them some self confidence. Remove pent up anger through physical exersion (exhaustion). Maybe understand the difference between video game killing and actual killing. Plus get away from home and maybe some lack of good parenting.

Sure not every military/ex military person is not a model citizen but I have know some pretty bad apples who went military and they seemed to straighten out afterwards.

I don't know. Just brain storming and trying to come up with something that might actually work in this society.

Yep PTSD would be a much better alternative...... The people doing these shootings aren't a bunch of bad apples, they are mentally unstable people. The military does correct a lot of bad apples such as those who misbehave as teens but a military experience won't correct a person on the brink of psychosis. Also, the majority of people involved in these shootings appear as quiet and socially awkward types, not those acting out. Hell, this guy was an honor student.

As an active duty Marine, i would have to diss agree with a draft. We have enough shit heads that volunteer to do this, i can only emagine what we would get if we get force fed people.

"even in peace time"

You know, I keep wondering how the hundreds of thousands of soldiers who fought in WW2 managed to adjust to civi life after the war. A war far more hideous then any war since. Sure there was no definition of PTSD back then and guys did have problems but nothing like what you hear about these days. Just saying

True but wouldn't a military psycologist be able to see a problem person more readily then a kid that lives at home with parents that think he's just a normal kid?

Different times. You can argue all you want about how people held their shit together back in the day, doesn't change the fact that its an issue to this day. Even in peace time there is still a long list of problems that come with a draft. In the end your solution still does absolutely nothing about this issue. You honestly think a kid that may be suffering from mental issues growing up will be suddenly healed by the military? I see a much higher percentage of them cracking in a bad way. A lot of these crazy types are mixing mental illness with incredibly violent video games that show the murder of innocent people by gunfire. I don't think putting them in a position where they legally shoot an assault rifle is an answer.

Like I said, just brain storming. Thing about cracking in the military is that they are in a more controlled environment and might be dealt with quicker. Kind of like having a heart attack while you're visiting someone in the hospital.

Disagree, you'll be putting an extra burden on military professionals, babysitting individuals and instilling values that their parents should have been doing from the beginning. My solution is to put religion back in school with an opt-out, therefore some kids will have a fear of going to hell if no other fear at all. But to your point, you want these kids to learn discipline. My question about these kids is, are these the same kids that talked back to their parents in the theater when we were younger, are these the same kids that their parents put leashes on in the mall when we were kids. Are these the same kids that showed no respect to their parents calling them names and running around thinking they're in charge. If so, it's not societies fault, it's the fault of the home these kids grow up in.

The military is downsizing more and more each year. The "Do more with less" mentality is where we are today. I for one would not want to have to deal with someone who didn't want to be in when I needed to count on them for anything.

This is one of the worst idea's I have ever heard. The wars we are fighting now are religion based. The church had it's turn at ruling the world.. Guess what.. It was called the dark ages!.. You want me to start linking the country's that have atheist leaders... Want to see how there crime rates are lower and living standards are higher? Besides Church/god didn't do shit to help all those little kids those preachers raped! Don't give me that shit. Religion has ran it's course! God has nothing to do with this. Mental illness does!

Ps. If you want church in school... Fine send them to private schools. But don't try to make me pay for your imaginary friend. There is a reason for the separation of church and state.

How about everyone has a number or a bar code on their person. The minute someone starts to do something...out of the ordinary. Throw them in the reject bin.
