http://www.foxbusiness.com/government/2012/11/27/best-and-worst-run-states-in-union/
Every year, 24/7 Wall St. conducts an extensive survey of all fifty states in America. Based on a review of data on financial health, standard of living and government services by state we determine how well each state is managed. For the first time, North Dakota is the best run. California is the worst run for the second year in a row.
50. California > Debt per capita: $4,008 (18th highest) > Budget deficit: 20.7% (17th largest) > Unemployment: 11.7% (2nd highest) > Median household income: $57,287 (10th highest) > Pct. below poverty line: 16.6% (18th highest)
California is 24/7 Wall St.’s “Worst Run State” for the second year in a row. Due to high levels of debt, the state’s S&P credit rating is the worst of all states, while its Moody’s credit rating is the second-worst. Much of California’s fiscal woes involve the economic downturn. Home prices plunged by 33.6% between 2006 and 2011, worse than all states except for three. The state’s foreclosure rate and unemployment rate were the third- and second-highest in the country, respectively. But efforts to get finances on track are moving forward. State voters passed a ballot initiative to raise sales taxes as well as income taxes for people who make at least $250,000 a year. While median income is the 10th-highest in the country, the state also has one of the highest tax burdens on income. According to the Tax Foundation, the state also has the third-worst business tax climate in the country.

A la verga... I pay $40 dollars a day in income taxes. I take home $166 per day... I was paying damn near $5.00 a gallon for gas about about a month ago. Taxed on food clothes... everywhere I go I pay into the system. Taxed when I die. Fuck the bullshit. I am tired of getting screwed. I already payed it forward. It is time for the guys who build the "biggest houses in America" (just to say they have the biggest house) to pay a little more. [ November 28, 2012, 12:42 AM: Message edited by: 75 chevy ]

That will never happen, politicians are the rich, they aren't going to tax themselves more without knowing how to get out of it already.

Same thing wrong here thats wrong with the whole country.Too many welfare/government dependent immigrants and lazy ass,no moral having, ghetto people looking for freebies and handouts.Them and the bleeding heart liberals that hand feed these losers are what happened to our country.Too late to change it and too late to fix it.The whole place is gonna have to go supernova and collapse in on itself before anything can be changed.I didnt like Romney but the 47% comment was spot on.

Time to move to a red state, maybe Texas. Waiting for home values to improve here a bit before making the move. Texas has been trying to leave the union of states for years now. Maybe I can help them. They still have a view of what the Constitution means and believe in personel freedom and responsibility (no helmet law, conceal carry okay, self reliance, even an 85 MPH speed limit in one place). CA gets more crazy every year. Liberalism is a mental disorder. Can I still be on the top 50 list from Texas?
Oh yeah, almost forgot. NO STATE INCOME TAX! [ November 28, 2012, 02:26 PM: Message edited by: John91coupe ]

What would happen if we stopped helping support people through welfare, low income housing, and other government aid...would our tax obligations go down?

Welfare programs consumed 1.028 trillion tax dollars in 2011. Do the math.

The government would probably find somewhere else to spend the money... i.e. give themselves raises. While homeless people in the street would be killing innocent people for a cheeseburger.

I don't have a problem with helping people out. I've had a problem with seeing a majority of my tax money spent on either: A. Supporting individuals who have the skills & are healthy enough to work, yet choose to be lazy & collect a check.
B. Seeing our debt go up with no end in site.
C. Spending our tax revenue on other countries who either don't pay us back or even worse take the money and still hate us.

I am pretty sure it cost less to fund welfare programs than to deal with the consequences of not having them. Crime rate would go up and so would the prison population. Also I truly believe that there is a bigger percentage of welfare recipients who actually need the help compared to those who exploit it. Maybe spending a little money to develop a team to primarily investigate welfare fraud would be a better solution instead eliminating it

im with the ability test and drug test i work at a retail store and i get pissed when i see a woman with a iphone on wic or a guy smelling like straight bud and collecting food stamps imo if you can pay for your habbits then you can pay for yourself. im sorry but a disability does not include drug habbits i didnt tell you to snort shit up your nose or tell you to stab yourself with a needle so dont take my tax dollars to support your habbits.

I'm all for helping those in need that are not capapble of providing for themselves but not the people who abuse the system. Sometimes I honestly wonder what is going through the minds of these politicians that allow this to happen. They need to implement a system of drug testing among people receiving these benefits as well as parole officer type visits for the state workers to these people who are supposedly incapable of working. There has to be something better than this I’m getting taxed like never before and its becoming a huge burden to my family.

The problem is we have to many lazy people, and scam artists sucking the system dry!! If I was president these would be my laws for Government assistance.
1) Unemployment- Cool, you have until the money you paid into it to find a job, or you officially lose your shit. At the point of no longer receiving money you can go report to a local agency for daily work. I am sure there are plenty of things to do around each local city on the daily. Cant come to work, no check.
2) Welfare/Food Stamps- Cool, you have to work a minimum of 40 hours a week to qualify. Work will include- Cleaning up garbage at local parks, freeways, schools etc..Oh to fat or lazy to do this shit, we will have american companys provide you with a phone and computer to do tech support from home. No more off shoring. This way I am not talking to some fucker I cant understand in other country!!
Until we find way to make people work for everything they receive on assistance, we will continue to screw ourselves as a country. We make shit to easy for people these days!! [ November 28, 2012, 11:46 PM: Message edited by: Camara90 ]

I agree if your getting money from the government you should be doing some kind of labor work, like picking up trash along the roads, hell they could come in behind me as i cut down trees and brush for fire breaks and pile it for me lol
