BMW: BMW of North America, whose headquarters are in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, was directly affected by the hurricane. The company has given $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid in disaster relief.
Ford: The Ford Motor Company Fund and Ford employees have collected $50,000 to donate to the American Red Cross. Ford is also offering MSRP discounts for customers who need to replace vehicles.
Chevrolet: In addition to the $250,000 donated by the GM Foundation to the Red Cross’ Disaster Responder Program, Chevrolet is sending 50 trucks to the Red Cross to help out. The Express cargo vans, Traverse crossovers and Tahoe SUVs will come from local inventory and will be equipped with OnStar Hands-Free Calling minutes and turn-by-turn navigation services.
Ram: Ram has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross and send 20 Ram 1500 Tradesman trucks to the organization.
Toyota: Like BMW, Toyota also contributed $1 million to the American Red Cross. Toyota also plans to match employee contributions to the Red Cross and other non-profit organizations that are currently aiding the affected communities.
Mazda: Mazda North America may not have the buying power of the big guys, but the company still offered $100,000 to the Red Cross, as well as $10,000 in grants to food banks located in the communities near Mazda’s Northeast regional office.

I think the OP is suggesting that the US automakers didn't donate enough. The only one looking kind of cheap is FORD. Kinda sad actually $50,000 c'mon Ford I'm sure some private parties donated more than that.

Hate to sound like a dick but no one is obligated to donate anything, it's out of kindness.

You are entitled to your opinion, but my point is that American automaker should be contributing more than foreign company.
And as the other member stated Ford came out looking shitty and only donating $50k....
I don't know...I'm just dumbfounded by how little was contributed by Ford. [ November 16, 2012, 01:38 PM: Message edited by: 1994steeda ]

Well the way I see it, BMW, Mazda and Toyota donated money only while Ford, Chevy and Ram donated money AND gave vehicle hook ups.

I suppose I'm a bit of a cynic, but I work for Chrysler in Detroit (well, Auburn Hills actually) and would like to provide my two cents... I feel that BMW's and Toyota's larger donations were probably motivated by marketing strategy than anything else. The two foreign auto companies implemented operations in the US as a strategic move to "domesticate" their brands- basically to earn good will in the US and increase sales. Giving large charitable donations to hurricane victims has the same effect (take your post for example).
I'm not trying to dissuade people from buying a Toyota or BMW- I drive a Toyota that was built by CA labor in NUMI. Another note- I wouldn't worry too much about GM... they still haven't paid off their government loans, so any money that they give belongs to the US taxpayer anyhow, and it will reach the hurricane victims either way.

I think they donated vehicles for the free publicity. I bet they even have decals on them that state that they were donated. Did they really need to tell the press that vehicles come equipped with onstar and bluetooth, lol. Ford offering discounts is pretty lame as well.

Yeah let's whine about the free money given, they could have not given anything at all. If I was Ford and I heard someone whining at the amount I gave I told them next time they won't get shit and they can see how they like that.

Most those people lost their cars. So Ford offering a discount to them is lame? Let me guess, you feel they should get them for free huh?

FYI, Chrylser paid back all of its government loans and 20% interest in May 2011- this was 6 years ahead of schedule... probably the best investment the government has ever made.

Put it this way... have you been to a Toyota dealership any where (sales floor), they sell cars left and right ,when us automaker dealerships are still struggling to keep up with sales ..it's easy to fork out dough when you have the Capitol , Fords just being smart not to give it all away ... For Toyota and BMW it's just a write off anyways..
