I have been trying to help my friend find a foxbody or sn95 for the past week or so and have been checking craigslist like usual and don't understand why SOME people over exagerate so much in their posts when the car in person is nothing like they said, I mean be honest especially if you know the person coming to potentially buy it is driving 2+ hours and the paint is scratched up, missing parts, motor is shot etc. Honesty is the difference between making a sale and getting stuck with a car that you obviously don't want anymore. I'm not talking about a $1500-$2500 car, These cars have $4500-$5500 price tags (which is the price range my friend is in). I understand craigslist is a hit or miss, but I've never had this much trouble finding a decent mustang that is truely worth $4500-$5500. Sorry if I offended anyone currently selling their car on craigslist Just gets frustrating.

I sympathize. I bought mine 3 years ago and it took me 6 months to find one decent enough at my $5000 price range. Most were hacked and like you said, weren't what was advertised. Have patience.
I never did travel more than 1 hour for one though....just because of that. [ October 10, 2012, 06:21 PM: Message edited by: Marks93 ]

Look out of state, elsewhere they are not looked at as gold mines and can still be had for a fair price. [ October 10, 2012, 06:34 PM: Message edited by: Nifty50 ]

Yup, patience is key. It's my friend who's doing the actual purchasing, yet I feel the same strain of frustration lol. I wish there was more dignity and respect in SOME of these cars out there ![[Roll Eyes]](rolleyes.gif)

its best to read the person. i can always tell either through the persons ad or his attitude on the phone whether a car is going to be pretty good or not.

True, I only call if the ad is well written and clear with sufficient info. The last car we looked at had a very good detailed ad and decent pictures, turned out to be the total opposite and the "excellent" paint looked like a bunch of cats scratched the shit out of it. The owners response was "it'll buff out" haha. The kid sounded pretty straight up on the phone too ![[BS flag]](graemlins/bs_flag.gif)

To the OP, I totally understand where your coming from on this matter. It's not that people are acting dumb, it's that there really that stupid! You have to talk to people and treat them as if there around the 9-11th grade level of education. Also, talk sloooowly and rewrite the same questions in the email 2-3 times to get to the bottom line of the car you interested in. It's a frustrating and difficult task but it will save you the 2 hours of driving to check out some useless POS you may be trying to buy.
Always get a phone number and talk to them, emails and texts will be the most frustrating of all communication.
It's very sad that we've come to this but it is was it is......good times

smogable, straight body, good paint (all one color with the exception of two-tone), engine/trans in good funtioning order, torque boxes in-tact, clean complete interior (no gangster lean) everything functional minus a/c not a big issue but is a plus, minor modifications to engine, differential, chassis (aftermarket upper and lower control arms are ok as long as torque boxes are welded or not damaged). I think all of this falls right around the $5000 price range and this is just a brief estimate, I think more can be included for that price. IMO

seems like some people are basing there prices off of what others on craigslist are asking. Seeing a lot of similarities in prices. I understand you have to start high, but most of these ads are firm.

Its ridiculous out there man, especially in the bay area and Sac and the rest of Cali for that matter- the majority of sellers think that they're gonna get rich off their Fox and ask a gazillion dollars for one that's mediocre . Your best bet is looking out of state or in small towns here in Ca.
